Seller's Notes

1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th Anniversary Coupe To mark the Corvettes 25th Anniversary, some notable improvements were made. 1978 Corvettes had a new fastback roofline and rear window which enhanced the Corvette's sleek silhouette and improved visibility for the driver and added extra luggage space. Inside, there is also room for storage of the removable roof panels. A larger plastic lined fuel tank is also a new addition to the '78 Vette with a capacity that was boosted from 17 to 24 gallons. The instrument panel has also been restyled and features face mounted, round, easy to read instruments. Thx corvettemuseum.org For consignment, a 1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th anniversary coupe showing 12,653 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one retains its numbers matching drivetrain, but others might be more impressed with the 8-track player in the cabin!  Exterior There are very few cars that can claim instant recognizability, but the Corvette, especially the C3's, can do just that. There's nothing quite like it, and this '78 wears a two tone pattern of Silver Metallic over Dark Gray to distinguish it even further from the mere mortal models, but shared the configuration with 15,283 units. Regardless of exterior color, there's no denying the exterior lines, Coke bottle shape, and low, sleek profile that helped make the Corvette a legendary car. Hidden headlights, a slight rise in the hood, and quad tail lights embedded in a rear panel are exciting features that will prompt you to open the garage door everyday just to soak it in. 15-inch slot wheels are wrapped in equal sized tires for a square stance and body colored T-tops come off for an open air experience. Overall, body and paint are great with imperfections noted as a dark, spray like staining, a few scratches, door edge wear, various inclusion in the paint, and various chips about. Interior Oyster and white adorn the handsome door panels with cloth, vinyl and carpet just this side of shag, baby, and both look good. Oyster cloth framed in white dress the tall bucket seats which remain in great condition and the light palette continues up front where the leather wrapped steering wheel fronts a simple instrument cluster on a tilt column. The center stack is aircraft inspired and like a landlocked B52, contains an array of gauges over an AM/FM/8-track radio, waterfalling to a center console in black with the shifter behind the A/C panel and other than a few paint chips, it looks fantastic. There's that thick carpet again, lining the footwells and covering the rear cargo area as well, while the headliner above caps off the clean interior.  Drivetrain A nice presentation is made by the numbers matching 350ci L82 V8 under the hood, good for 220 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, together since 1978, the numbers matching T10 4-speed manual transmission which transfers power to the rear axle with 3.70 gears and Positraction.  Undercarriage Generally clean underneath with some expected surface rust and some residual oil on the pan, but clear knuckles and solid construction. Here we have a single exhaust that splits to become two tailpipes taking on stock style mufflers. Power disc brakes are at all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs in front and half shafts, lateral struts, control arms, and transverse leaf springs out back.  Drive-Ability The cabin is a combination of a race car and experimental airplane, but no matter how you look at it, it's instantly gratifying and begs to be driven. The V8 delivers good power but 28 year old tires prevent us from trying anything at speed. It may not be the fastest Vette on the road, but handling will be on par with the best of this era. We note the heater blower stays on and the power antenna is not working and that one doesn't surprise us. Beyond that, all functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
