27 Years of Ownership
More akin to a work of art, legacy has been built into this coupe from the wheels up. Repainted in the original Monza Red (Chevrolet paint code 974) as part of the award winning restoration performed by Corvette Conspiracy of Cleveland, OH. This Corvette is now better than it was when it left the factory. Johnny Drahos of Corvette Conspiracy had a 50+ year career starting in 1970 focusing on building, restoring, and modifying Corvettes.
The entire car is period-correct, like the iconic crossed Chevrolet flag emblem on the interior door handle and center console, the push-down exterior door handles, and the emblem emblazoned on the steering wheel and the simple interior has been luxuriously refurbished. The red carpeted floor has been protected by a plastic liner, and the red vinyl seats are comfortable enough to sink into. The front passenger seat has a dashboard pocket for additional storage. The t-tops lift off and the back window tilts out for storage in the back compartment. The manual AM/FM radio is functional with the two large dials, and the hidden ashtray is nestled in the console. The “Stingray” lettering and Chevrolet crossed flags adorn the exterior as well, simple touches on the gorgeous paint.
The legacy of the Corvette Stingray is one of speed and elegance uniquely situated in a lineup of American muscle. Built for aerodynamics and designed for the track, this vehicle comes with a document restoration binder and history file. This Chevrolet has been part of the Car Cave family for over 27 years and is now ready to find a new garage to call home. Take off the T-top and let the wind blow through your hair as we take you on a ride down memory lane in one of the greatest restorations we’ve ever seen (and we’re only a little biased).
The first documented owner of this Corvette was a Ms. Cecelia of Nacogdoches, Texas who purchased the Stingray in 1974. She kept it for 25 years and was interested in turning the vehicle into a race car. Luckily we saved it from taking a beating on the track. According to Allan, he “must have been a real basket case for buying it” from her– when Allan purchased the Corvette, this vehicle was miles from glory. But he brought the vehicle home to Kansas in November 1999, and it has remained in the family ever since.
From 2008 to December 12, 2012 the Stingray was placed in the care of by Corvette Conspiracy of Cleveland, Ohio (also a relation of Car Cave) for a complete documented rotisserie restoration. All new seats, foam, and carpet were installed, and some under-the-hood updates were included. Better shocks, better springs, urethane bushings, fatter sway bars, and a clearcoat to protect the paint were all part of the upgrades included in the otherwise period-correct restoration. Some quality-of-life adjustments were made as well: The air conditioning has R12 fittings, but takes R134A refrigerant; and insulation and sound deadener were install
