1989 Mercedes-Benz 420-Class 420 SEL

This 1989 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL is finished in Light Ivory over Palomino leather. Power is supplied by a 4.2-liter M116 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes Reproduction 16” Gullideckel Alloy Wheels, automatic climate control, headlight wipers, fog lights, a Becker stereo, a power-operated sunroof, cruise control, and power-adjustable front seats with position memory. Under previous ownership, the fuel pressure accumulator, air injection pump, fuel distributor, fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, air conditioning compressor, and rear brake components were replaced and the transmission was serviced.
The car is finished in Light Ivory (623U) with darker lower cladding and features a power-operated sunroof, headlight wipers, fog lights, a power antenna, dual exhaust outlets, and bright window and bumper trim. A ding is noted on the left rear quarter panel.
Reproduction 16” Gullideckel Alloy Wheels are mounted with 225/60 Michelin Premier A/S tires that show 2020 date codes. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs with ABS. The rear brake pads and rotors were replaced in August 2023, at which time a brake fluid flush was performed.
The interior features seating surfaces trimmed in Palomino leather upholstery along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Woodgrain trim adorns the dash, door panels, and center console, and additional appointments include power-adjustable front seats with position memory, power windows, a Becker Grand Prix stereo, automatic climate control, and cruise control. In 2022 the air conditioning compressor, receiver drier, and air conditioning switch were replaced. Cracks are visible in the woodgrain trim, the center console storage cover latch is also cracked, and the front-left door cladding has a broken clip.
The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and instant fuel economy. The six-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 6k of which were added under previous ownership.
The 4.2-liter M116 V8 was factory rated at 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. In May 2021 the valve cover gasket was replaced and in 2022 the fuel pressure accumulator, air injection pump, fuel distributor, and fuel filter were replaced. The spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and air filter were replaced and an oil change was performed in 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission that was serviced in 2023.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, and Nevada.
