Seller's Notes

1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Italy doesn't have a thing on Ashtabula, Ohio. Indeed. Italy's formidable ability to produce sensuous automotive shapes is more widely recognized than Ashtabula's. But then few people realize that Ashtabula is where we build the body for this country's only production sports car, Corvette. Like its Italian counterparts, the Corvette is more than just an automobile. It's an experience: to look at, to sit in, to drive. From a 1966 print ad showing a young couple leaning on their convertible.  For consignment, a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a title verified 90,689 actual miles. This car received a frame off restoration and retains a period correct 427 and its number matching Muncie M20 four speed transmission.  Exterior Two stage Milano Maroon drips off this car like it just stepped out of a pool filled with Cabernet Sauvignon, with a better than new shine that allows all other features to take their turn at center stage. The tan canvas top represents the rarest of the three top colors available in 1966 and it's the perfect mate for the maroon paint, and its window is crystal clear. Let's welcome the 15-inch knock off wheels to the spotlight and the 205/75R15 white wall tires, all making a sporty statement. Vented covers over side pipes step up next, showy but not over the top. Chrome accents include the bumpers, door handles, side mirrors, window reveal and tail light rings while vents on the hood's power bulge also offer contrast with polished slats. Imperfections are few and include a surface scratch on the rear deck, inclusions on the front fender, a bubble on the nose, a multi-line scratch on the driver's door, and a surface scratch on the passenger's.  Interior The black interior starts off with fantastically clean and simple door panels, the highlight of which are the steel ball door actuators. From there, we turn our attention to the low back bucket seats in near perfect condition with just a small scuff on the grain vinyl of the passenger seat. Ornamental seams symmetrically adorn the honey colored wood steering wheel which front the arching cluster of gauges based in texture black plastics which would likely score high on the concours field. The smooth center stack funnels down to a clock, silver knobs, and a vertical radio followed by the silver face center console with a chrome balled shifter, all in excellent condition. Black loop carpet also shows well both in the footwells and in the rear cargo area under the hinged tonneau.  Drivetrain Just shiny enough is the date correct 427ci L36 V8 under the hood, cast on August 24, 1965. It wears an Edelbrock intake under a Holley 4-barrel and is mated to the numbers matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission.  A whopping 390 horsepower is routed to the rear wheels with 3.70 gears and Positraction. Headers begin the exhaust process which is a short one as they lead to the side pipes right away.     Undercarriage Clean conditions prevail underneath where you'll find disc brakes at all four wheels and suspension that includes coil springs up front and half shafts, lateral struts, controls arms, and transverse leaf spring on the independent rear.  Drive-Ability Look someone has to do it and our entails bringing you as detailed information as we can on the functional condition of the car. So off we go, doing the hard work of driving a classic, fully restored Corvette around the test loop and what we find surprises no one. All items on this well sorted car operate as expected and the side pipes respond to your right foot flexing and it's fantastic! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Here's one that checks all the boxes and presents in a very nice spec that we simply don't see every day. For the discerning collector comes this tasty '66 that needs
