38,665 miles
1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th Anniversary Coupe It stands alone today as it has since the summer of 1953, a truly unique and finely machined two seater. America's only true production sports car. The legend lives on and improves, as legends do, with the passage of time. And now, if you will, join us in a round of applause for the Corvette founding fathers, that spirited corps of does and dreamers who created the legend, brought it to life, and kept it there. From a 1978 print ad. For consignment, a 1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th anniversary coupe showing 38,665 miles, but the true miles are unknown. All 46,776 Corvettes wore a special anniversary badge in '78, and it was also the year the car paced the Indianapolis 500, so 6,502 replicas were sold to the public. This car retains its numbers matching L48 V8 engine. Exterior Single stage Silver Metallic covers this sports car instantly rendering it a proverbial silver bullet on the street! You already know about the Corvette's sinuous lines and Coke bottle profile, and things like the hidden headlights, functional fender vents, and rounded one piece tail just seal the deal for desirability. Pinstriping accentuates the fender arches and also frames the vents and even decorates the sport mirrors. There are also bolder stripes that line the rise on the hood. If you were a bird, you'd have a view of the body colored T-tops, the skyward facing chrome door handles, and the curved rear window, a new addition for the '78 model. YJ8 aluminum slot wheels carry 225/70R15 tires for a nice, square stance and they present in good shape. Imperfections include some touched up scratches, scuffs, bubbling, flex cracks on the tail piece, cracks near the handle, small chip in the windshield, random chips, chips on the nose, (touched up), and flex cracks there. Interior Looking like a cross between red and brown, the interior palette is called Saffron by GM, starting on the door panels with smooth vinyl over a carpeted lower insert. There are several tears on the driver's door but the passenger's presents cleanly. Saffron leather covers the bucket seats and once again, the driver's side shows some wear and the shotgun seat is nice. The leather wrapped rim of the steering wheel shows some patina and fronts a simple gauges cluster up front with tach and speedometer while the center stack is the main control center with a 5 gauge pod, including clock, an AM/FM/CD radio, and A/C panel, all transitioning to the center console where the shifter resides. We note several cracks on the dash pad, and some slight fading to the Saffron carpet in the footwells and cargo area behind the seats. Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to bring this car to a car event! Drivetrain Our clean engine is the numbers matching 350ci L48 V8, rated at 185 horsepower and receiving fuel through a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 3.08 gears and Positraction. The car has power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. Undercarriage Generally clean underneath with some typical surfacer rust and some oil on the steering gear noted. A single exhaust splits and each tendril finds a stock style muffler and exits through a short tip. Power disc brakes occupy each wheel and suspension consists of coil springs in front and half shafts, lateral struts, control arms, and transverse leaf springs out back. Drive-Ability Corvette engineers knew if they created a cockpit that felt like a racecar, people would buy it. And it is one gratifying place to be as we crank the 350 to life and set out on the test loop where the car runs well, tracks straight and of course, handles well. We note the A/C and clock are not working but all other functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your pu
