With appreciation growing around the world for sports cars in the 1960s, the E-Type represented an impressive shift - offering stunning looks, a powerful inline-6, paired with independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes, all at a price that made it look like a bargain compared to the other sports cars coming out of Europe at the time. This 1966 E-Type is a Series 1, and features the more powerful 4.2-liter inline-6, improved gearbox and has been under the care of the same family since 2006.Finished in British Creme with a black convertible top, this E-type Convertible presents in very nice driver condition and features significant recent recommissioning. The stunning shape of the E-Type is complimented by a set of wire wheels which are wrapped in a set of Coker thin whitewall tires, which give a very period look. 1966 marked a great year for the E-Type as it retained its original covered headlight design, but with a slightly more spacious interior, increased power and a better gearbox. In 2007, the interior was restored to factory specification in stunning red leather with matching red carpets. Drop down into the drivers seat and youre met with a wood-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel that frames a pair of Smiths gauges with white-on-black readouts. To your right are four additional auxiliary gauges, that sit above a dashboard packed with rocker switches to control windshield wipers, blower fan and dash lights among other necessary functions.Powering this E-Type is the 4.2-liter variant of Jaguars famed dual overhead cam inline-6. With a trio of SU HD8 carburetors, this engine is rated for 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque which is provided in a smooth, linear manner and with an outstanding sound coming out of the dual exhaust. The later Series-1 cars received an improved 4-speed manual gearbox with a 1st gear synchro, and offers a positive shift feel and easy operation. In April 2026, the entire rear end was rebuilt with an EZ Bleed system for the brakes, new bearings, shims seals and U-Joints, and the braking system was rebuilt as well. With inboard disc brakes at the rear, this is a significant service and having it completed should offer additional confidence for the new owner. At this time, a general tune up was also completed with new plugs, oil and filter.Representing the best of 1960s England, the Series 1 E-Type convertible will be a sought after collector car for decades to come. Offering gorgeous styling and remarkably modern driving dynamics that can be enjoyed by even the most committed modern car driver, there are few vehicles that provide a more enjoyable top-down experience.*--*For more information on this 1966 Jaguar E-Type Convertible or any of our other Luxury, Exotic, Sports, and Special Interest cars in our inventory contact our friendly and knowledgeable sales team or, if you are local to us, call and schedule a visit to our 40,000+ sq. ft. of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance, and Collectible Automobiles.
