Seller's Notes

1970 Plymouth 340 'Cuda Hardtop Plymouth's Barracuda is offered in many configurations, but there's one that is best of all: the 'Cuda 340. What this car does is deliver a no compromise performance exhibition at all stages, be it handling, drag racing, street riding or cross country junketing. Not many cars will do all of this well, although most cars can do them all to a certain degree. The 'Cuda 340 is a far better driving machine than either the 440 or 426 V8 equipped 'Cudas, and at least equals the performance you might expect from an assembly line stock hemi 'Cuda. Hot Rod Magazine, Jan. 1971 For consignment, a 1970 340 'Cuda hardtop with 4,388 miles since built. This numbers matching car was garaged its entire life and was subject to a complete restoration, owned by our consignor, the car's second owner, for 20 years.  Exterior Many maintain that this is the best looking muscle car ever built, and we're not about to argue! The stunning proportions of this 'Cuda, with its long nose and short rear deck would look great in any color, and this two stage coat of Deep Burnt Orange Metallic is no exception. Of course, what's a 340 without the black accent stripe on the rear hind quarters and as the car goes by you, you'll note the flat black rear panel taking in the stacked, three part tail lights. Nostrils on the hood, pins to hold it down, and the iconic grille with marker lights clinging flush to the gill-like upper portion. Speaking of gills, the rocker trim is the fish gill design, a one year only motif that spans the distance between the 14-inch Mopar Rally wheels. Overall, paint, body and trim are in great shape. Imperfections include a touched up scratch, a few small chips, a hairline crack in the nose of the grille, and cracks in the marker light lenses.  Interior Open the doors to find black plastic molded panels, complete and clean and wearing a 'Cuda call out. The tall vinyl buckets and rear seats are just about flawless and the black motif gets warmed up by the brown rimmed steering wheel and woodgrain faceplate of the instrument cluster ahead. Four gauges include a tachometer and a rather elaborate clock and just below it all, an original looking AM radio and vent levers. A dual pod has been added for water and oil, all under a clean dash pad that looks showroom fresh. And just when period perfection has you breathless, up pops the iconic pistol grip Hurst shifter from the floor, covered in deep, dark black loop carpet. The headliner, visors, and shoulder belts all get an A+ from us and the trunk is clean as 1970.  Drivetrain Beyond clean, this looks like a fresh assembly plant release! It's the numbers matching 340ci V8, rated at 275 horsepower and getting gas through a Carter 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to the numbers matching A833 4-speed manual transmission and power is routed to the 8 ¾ inch SureGrip rear axle with 3.55 gears.   Undercarriage We've been in this business long enough to know that with a topside like this, the underside will very likely be spotless, and that's exactly what we have here, a super clean, grease and rust free bottom side. Dual exhaust passes through stock style mufflers and exit via square tips that cleanly pop through the valance. Drum brakes are at all four corners and suspension includes torsion bars in front and leaf springs in back.   Drive-Ability Rare are the times when a car looks this good, then falls on its face on the test. And this one doesn't change the statistic as it runs great, sounds fantastic, and drives as fresh as it looks. We don't keep it outside long enough to get dirty and take it back to the mall to find a spot under the lights. All functions work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.  For the discerning collector, a numbers matching 'Cuda that is so nice, we'd
