Seller's Notes

1968 Ford Mustang Hardtop Why settle for an 'also ran' or second choice, when the front runner, the original, can give you exactly what you're looking for? Even in its lowest priced version, Mustang hardtop, you get a very sporty automobile. Bucket front seats are standard. And they're individually adjustable for driver and passenger, for the most comfortable seating. Start something exciting for yourself, Mustang makes it happen the moment you grab the wheel. From the 1968 Mustang brochure. For consignment, a 1968 Ford Mustang hardtop showing 117,987 miles, bu thet true miles are unknown. The stallion is packing a 347ci V8 stroker that our consigner states puts out 400+ horsepower. Quite a herd! Exterior This good looking car begins with a two stage application of Elkhart Blue paint, restored in 2009 and holding up very well. The color highlights the side character line synonymous with classic Mustangs and covers the cowl hood which gives just the right amount of muscle to the profile. Rocker trim extends to each of the 17-inch Polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, up three inches from what the factory would have provided and wrapped in low profile tires with a staggered width that create a great stance. In front, the running horse is contained by a coral and out back, each section of the tail lights is trimmed in polished stainless and underscored by the chrome bumper followed by a pair of protruding chrome tips. Imperfections include a gap issue with the hood, a few minor paint inclusions, chips behind the rear wheels, and a minor scratch. Interior Parchment vinyl door panel inserts are stylish and standard, showing just a touch of age but presentable and the off white is a great contrast to the blue. Up front, bucket seats with textured and stitched inserts show nicely and the condition is mirrored in the rear 2+2. Back up front, a wood rimmed, three spoke sport steering wheel shares the column with a tachometer. The instrument cluster is otherwise original with two main gauges up front flanked by smaller ones and an empty space for the radio. Rising high from the transmission tunnel is a performance shifter just behind the added triple gauge cluster. Blue loop carpet is below and a parchment headliner is above and both are in very nice shape with just a touch of looseness to the headliner. The trunk is barren and clean and awaits your show trophies. Drivetrain Speaking of shows, check out the chrome filled engine bay that houses a 347ci V8 stroker with aftermarket heads, an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb, headers, and a consignor stated 400+ horsepower. It's mated to a C4 3-speed automatic transmission with a reverse manual valve body and rebuilt ATI torque converter. The rebuilt rear is a Ford 9 with 3.70 gears and Eaton Tru-Trac Positraction. Chrome cross bay bracing, steel braided lines, and a flame engraved air filter cover all contribute to a show worthy engine bay. Undercarriage The clean underside includes dual exhaust through FlowMaster mufflers and terminating in mirror-like chrome tips. There are disc brakes up front and drums in the back while suspension consists of coil springs in the front and leaf springs with Afco traction bars in back. Beautiful flat black paint serves as the backdrop for the undercarriage and we find zero rust. Drive-Ability All's well as we let this one out of the stable and free up about 400 horses. Clearly, there's power underfoot here, a nice exhaust note, and very good handling. And yet, the interior retains much of its original charm. We note the reverse lights are not working but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Stunning good looks, a stout drivetrain, and a clean interior. Those are the boxes and they are all checked! Classic Mustangs remain a popular ite
