This vintage racer is a blast to drive and I drive it all over Montgomery, AL. It is of course a real attention getter with many thumbs up. The construction is based on 1930’s Model T race cars which raced on dirt tracks. This car started life as a Model T Roadster then later became a pick-up and now is a glorious Speedster. It’s mighty sporty for a 96 year old car.
Here are some of the modifications made to make it race worthy.
· Modified frame lowered 6 inches on axles
· Shocks on all four corners to add safety and stability
· Additional set of brakes on rear to add to stopping power
· Custom designed body panels
· Original Speedster seat frames
· Ten gallon aluminum gas tank with electric fuel pump
· Eight volt battery with modified voltage regulator
· Turn signals
· Shortened Steering column with Vega Steering box
· Foot pedal accelerator
· Modified Model T motor including:
o Oversized pistons
o Model A intake, Exhaust, and Carburetor
o Modified flywheel with Magnets removed
o VW Distributor to replace Magneto and Coils
Some of the original Model T parts that were used include:
· Model T Frame and springs
· Wire Wheels
· Headlights
· Radiator
· Model T rear drive and transmission
· Model T cowl and firewall
This little bugger has seat belts which is a good thing because it is the fastest Model T I have ever driven. It is a joy to drive and not many folks are driving in anything older.
