Acquired from the estate of the second owner who, a few years ago, invested well over $20,000 in a comprehensive rebuild and restoration. We sold the car seven years ago, just bought it back having covered 400 miles over the past seven years!
Body is excellent, black paint in (local) show quality, excellent chassis and wood floors, excellent panel fit, really fantastic. And all new interior in tan with leather seats and matching dash covering. New dash center panel, all of the original gauges and switches work (dual gauge is new), wiring looks to be in good condition, rebuilt engine (our tests, zero smoke, 150 psi compression in every cylinder, 40+ psi oil pressure when hot), very good chrome, rubber trim, and minor details.
Brakes were a bit wobbly from sitting and we just replaced all of the wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Tonneau is very good, top and side curtains passable but the truth is, how many TD owners regularly drive their cars in the rain?
VERY nicely detailed in the engine with the (often missing) original air cleaner assembly, freshly rebuilt twin SUs, And yes, the firewall is the same color as the exterior.
On the road (having owned, sold, and driven literally hundreds of TDs), NONE is better.....gearbox is silent (even in 1st gear), excellent synchromesh, not 'fast' but quite lively.....revs quickly and pulls nicely. For an MG TD, it goes unusually well. And usual TD virtues, quick precise steering, excellent ride, a wonderful 'feel' of quality. Even with an adjustable steering column.
A beautiful car, structurally and mechanically in very very good condition. And on a Spring or Summer day, hard to beat a TD with the windshield folded down and zipping along on a winding country road.
