The 2020 Toyota Prius Prime represents the third generation of Toyota's sepcialty plug-in hybrid hatchback. Offered in three trims – LE, XLE, and Limited – all feature a 1.8L four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor to deliver a combined output of 121 horsepower. Fuel economy is spectacular at an EPA-estimated 133 MPG equivalent in electric mode and 54 MPG in hybrid mode. A single charge offers up to 25 miles of all-electric range. Front-wheel-drive and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are standard on all variants. Technology features include a 7-inch touch screen on the base model and an upgraded 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen on the XLE and Limited trims. Both interfaces offer Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa. Toyota also includes its Safety Sense P suite of technology, which incorporates adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with brake assist, lane departure warning and automatic high beam headlights.
