The Future is Now
As 2020 is fast approaching, we’re seeing the first indications of experimental car technology for the year. You’ll now find tech (and even new types of cars) you never knew you needed as well as some that you don’t need but definitely want. Here is the latest in car trends to help you stay in the loop of what’s to come.
Ditching the Sedans
It should come as no surprise that 2020 may be the year you decide to ditch your sedan. With the variety of SUVs on the market at relatively decent prices, you’ll find yourself itching to try an SUV. Compacts, crossovers, and full-size SUVs are more popular than ever, and you’ll see the shift for yourself when driving by your local car dealership. But haven’t we had SUVs for a while now? What’s the big deal?
SUVs are now capable of everything we’ve wanted them to be. Their ability to master comfort and ruggedness, passengers and gear, and overall good looks inside and out makes SUVs hard to compete with. The only reason you’re going for anything other than an SUV is for utilitarian purposes, like a truck or van. We’re sorry to say, but sedans are on their way out. But don’t worry too much, they’ll make room for all the new shiny SUVs.
Hybrid & Electric Everything
If you haven’t noticed, hybrid and electric vehicles are making moves left and right in 2020. Whether you’re a classic sedan-loving driver or someone who enjoys a little more adventure in life, there are soon to be many options for those who want a more environmentally friendly or fuel-efficient vehicle. For the first time in history, pickup trucks will be powered by batteries (see: Rivian, Tesla, Atlis, Bollinger, or any of the others hopping on the electric train) and more cars than ever will be hybrids (see: Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Kona, and Honda’s new CR-V hybrid). What’s next you ask? Amphibious cars? Not quite…but maybe. Just ask Elon Musk.
Off-Road Trucks
What is that I hear? You need a truck that can haul AND crawl? Well, good news partner, off-road trucks are on-trend. Gone are the days when trucks were just meant for the construction site or for towing heavy machinery. Now you can have a truck that does the work and the fun for you. Ford’s F-150 Raptor, Chevy’s Colorado, and Toyota’s Tacoma have made it easy to have the best of both worlds while looking.
Need More Tech (And Cowbell!)
The basic tech features just won’t cut it anymore. With the rapid-fire speed of technological innovation, drivers are expecting even the low-end vehicles to feature some form of tech inside and out. From easy touchscreen navigation to seamless Bluetooth connectivity, in order to be sold today we are all expecting even more from our car manufacturers. We don’t just want a backup camera, we want a 360-view of the vehicle and night vision as standard. How about heated seats and a heated steering wheel? Though these are not always options for most vehicles, we will continue to see more technology in even the lowest trim levels of the most inexpensive vehicles as time goes on.

From electric vehicles in every body style to technology that makes blind spots a thing of the past, we can expect to see our quality of driving and car style to keep going up and up.
