Part of the 14th-generation series that debuted in 2021, the 2024 Ford F-150 sports a comprehensive overhaul that includes a facelift, a reduction in ordering complexity, increased hybrid model production, and standard 12-inch displays for the gauge cluster and infotainment interface across the board.
Ford has a lot riding on the F-150 as it has been the best-selling pickup in America for an incredible 48 years. But the Blue Oval appears to be up to the task given the massive level of updating they applied to this latest F-150. And in case the 7 standard F-150s don’t have what you’re looking for, there’s always the desert-racing Raptor models that come in “regular” spec and completely unhinged R spec.
Serious towing capacity
Jobsite friendly onboard generator
Impressive infotainment offerings
Lack of complimentary maintenance
Still rides on leaf springs
Base price spike
F-150 shows no signs of slowing down
Ford may have reduced ordering complexity on the 2024 F-150, but there are still six different engines to choose from and that’s after the old 3.3L V6 was axed this year. Base models now come with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 that makes 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.
Standard in Tremor and Lariat models is the 5.0L Coyote V8 with 400 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. Platinum models get the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 that also makes 400 horses, but bumps torque up to 500 lb-ft. Tick the Platinum Plus box to enjoy the PowerBoost hybrid version of this engine that registers 430 hp and 570 torques.
Need more? Garden-variety Raptors are fitted with a high-output 3.5L EcoBoost that generates 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. But for maximum madness, you’ll be wanting the Raptor R and its 5.2L supercharged V8 that puts down an outrageous 720 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque!
All motors pair with a 10-speed automatic to spin the rear wheels with 4WD optional on lower-end models and standard from the Tremor on up. Fuel economy ranges from a solid 25 mpg combined with the hybrid setup to a decent 22 mpg combined with the 2.7L V6, to a not-great 16 mpg combined in Raptors, and an atrocious 12 mpg combined for the Raptor R.
As for towing, the max rating for the 2024 F-150 is 13,500 pounds and 2,455 pounds of payload. Trailer sway control is standard, while features like onboard scales and an integrated generator can be added to elevate the F-150 into ultimate work truck status.
With three cab styles – regular, extended, and crew – and three bed lengths – 5.5, 6.5, and 8.0 feet – the 2024 Ford F-150 can be configured to fit nearly any need. Should you want something smaller, be sure to check out the all-new 2024 Ranger, which we preview here.
Depending on configuration, there are seats for 3, 5, or 6 occupants. Go for the crew cab to enjoy 44 inches of rear legroom and a fancy Platinum to revel in massaging leather front seats with heating and ventilation. Base models are the work truck of the lineup with vinyl flooring and cloth seats, but the XLT trim lines and above come with automatic climate control, power front seats, and rear under seat storage.
For 2024, every F-150 comes with a fully digital gauge cluster, a 12-inch central touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and connected navigation. For the first time, a head-up display is available on the F-150, while the 14-speaker “Unleashed” stereo from B&O remains the go–to choice for audiophiles.
Every new F-150 also comes with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite of advanced safety nets that includes forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping system, and automatic high beams. There are also 6 standard airbags and in NHTSA testing, the 2024 F-150 earned a 5-star overall rating.
The entry-level 2024 F-150 XL comes with 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, power windows, and cloth seats. All the latest infotainment systems, including dual 12-inch digital screens and wireless smartphone integration, are also on hand.
STX models are dressed up with dark-finished 20-inch rims, LED fog lights, and a carpeted floor. An optional FX4 package adds all-terrain tires, off-road dampers, skid plates, and an electronically locking rear differential.
With the XLT trim, standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a surround-view monitor. These models also come with Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist technology.
A dedicated off-roader, Tremor spec consists of a 9.75-inch rear gearset, 33-inch all-terrain rubber, Hill Descent Control, and beefed-up suspension components. A 90-day trial to BlueCruise hands-free driving tech is included as is adaptive cruise control and heated front seats.
Lariat models boast adaptive headlights, rain-sensing wipers, climatized front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Other niceties include remote tailgate release, power-sliding rear glass, leather upholstery, and household-style power outlets.
With two-tone paint, exclusive Del Rio leather, and special real wood trim, the King Ranch F-150 channels your inner cowboy. These pricey models also come with power-deploying running boards, a twin-panel moonroof, adaptive dampers, massaging front seats, a heads up display, a wireless phone charging pad, and much more.
Platinum trim shares the King Ranch base price, but swaps in traditional elegance like gloss black wheels and trim outside, brushed aluminum accents inside, and leather wrapping throughout. You also gain access to the nearly $11,000 Platinum Plus package that offers the hybrid motor, 22-inch rims, quilted leather, and special décor.
With the Raptor, you can truly go Baja racing thanks to a big motor, 35-inch tires, Fox live valve shocks, heavy-duty skid plates, and an array of trail-focused tech. Or you can check the Raptor R box – for about $32,000 more – to enjoy 720 horsepower, massive tires, and loads of off-road goodies.
Given the big price tags across the 2024 F-150 lineup, it would be worth looking at an XLT model to keep the starting figure below $50,000 and then add options and packages that fit your needs. You should also check out the latest incentives.
A 2024 Toyota Tundra SR5 comes in several thousand below that and has a more potent motor, but a smaller central screen. However, Toyota includes 2 years of complimentary maintenance with the Tundra, while the F-150 comes with none. Otherwise, Ford’s warranty is standard with 3 years of basic coverage and 5 years of powertrain coverage.
