2025 Nissan Sentra Review

Interested in a compact car? The 2025 Nissan Sentra might be the right choice for you. We look at powertrain, technology and more in our review.

What’s New for the 2025 Nissan Sentra?

A member of the fifth model year of the eighth-generation Nissan Sentra, 2025 is something of a transitional year more so than a transformative one. You do get an efficient drivetrain with solid features and legroom for the money. Granted, it’s not all that fast. But the Sentra platform makes up for this with practicality and efficiency to match.

Changes and new editions are sparse compared to last year. The new Midnight Edition trim is pretty neat, as is a light dusting of new features. It’s a tempting package if all you need is an affordable new car with good fuel economy and a warranty.

2025 Sentra Powertrain 8/10

2025 Nissan Sentra - nissanusa.com

The Sentra powertrain is slow, but a compact car like this is made for economy, not power. Its 2.0L four-cylinder engine generates 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. That’s better than the 128 horses the older Sentras produce, but a zero to 60 sprint somewhere in the high eights and low nines feels disappointing even for an economy car.

2025 Nissan Sentra - nissanusa.com

More impressive is the fuel economy, a healthy 30 mpg city and 40 mpg hwy. With a 12.4-gallon fuel tank, 350 miles of highway driving on a single tank isn’t out of the question. Put plainly, the Sentra is an efficient but underpowered economy car.

2025 Nissan Sentra Interior 7.75/10

Cloth seats are standard on the base Sentra S, while the SV trim adds optional leather accents. The higher SR and SR Midnight trims offer available leatherette upholstery, and a moonroof becomes an option starting with the SV. With a wheelbase of 106.6 inches, rear-seat legroom of 34.9 inches is respectable, as is trunk space at 14.4 cubic feet. The Sentra offers just about what you would expect, but nothing that raises the bar for a compact sedan.

2025 Nissan Sentra Technology Features 7.5/10

The base S model comes with a simple four speaker sound system and a 7” touchscreen, while the higher trims have an optional eight speaker Bose premium audio system and a standard 8” touchscreen. All models come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration but a Wi-Fi hotspot and SirusXM are not available with the base S trim level.

The Nissan Safety Shield 360 driver aid suite includes rear automatic braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, along with lane departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is a highlight of the upper two trims along with a 360-degree camera system. The Nissan Sentra scores a 5-star safety rating from the NHTSA and “Good” rating from the IIHS.

S – $21,590

Steel wheels, a 7” center screen, and adaptive cruise control omitted. It’s your ticket to an affordable new car with a warranty. If that’s all you want, you’ll be happy with this.

SV – $22,290

The SV trim adds 18” alloy wheels and a larger eight-inch screen. A Bose premium audio unit also makes itself available here along with the option for heated front seats and steering wheel.

SR – $24,590

On the outside, the SR comes with a spoiler, LED headlights, and 18-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, SR trim comes with optional leatherette seating. You can still opt for cloth if you like, but we imagine the extra comfort is worth it. Heated front seats are standard with the SR and a dual-zone climate control system is also a big winner here.

SR Midnight Edition – $25,285

All the features of the SR plus exclusive blacked-out seats, wheels, plus interior and exterior trim pieces. It’s the most striking 2025 Sentra on the road.

2025 Nissan Sentra Overall Value 7.5/10

The Sentra has always been a boring little runabout. It’s one of the main reasons its big brother, the Altima is so tempting. It adds an extra element of affordable sportiness that founded the Altima craze. But on its own, the Sentra does its primary functions well enough. Just don’t expect any excitement. You might even get impatient with how slow it is.

Carsforsale.com Overall Score 7.75/10

2025 Nissan Sentra – nissanusa.com |  Shop 2025 Nissan Sentra on Carsforsale.com

The Sentra does not compare to the Honda Civic and it’s definitely not an equal to the Toyota Corolla. With a three-year basic warranty on offer, it does not quite measure up to the warranty that you would get from a Kia K4 or Hyundai Elantra. Overall, it is a good-enough sporty sedan but ultimately gets eclipsed by its competitors.

Benny Kirk

As one of the youngest automotive/aerospace journalists in North America, Benny Kirk's writing prowess can only be described as rooted in the deepest pits of nerd and geek culture. Only after he acquired a degree in journalism did his penchant for scouring the internet at two in the morning to learn cool but useless facts about cars, airplanes, spaceships, and computers become remotely useful. But now, Benny has experience under his belt that journalists twice his age can't claim. This includes live coverage at major North American international auto shows, racing events, NASA space launches, and a portfolio of test drives and reviews from major OEMs in both the automotive and powersports sectors. As of recent, he's even started covering nuclear energy news as a special beat project, just for the kick of it. The point is, there's nothing Benny's afraid to write about. But he's more than happy to apply his craft to give some genuinely helpful consumer advice.
