What’s New for the 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz?

Everything! We first broke news about the announcement of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz back in 2023, and it’s finally arrived. This all-new three-row van was just released and is a revival of the classic VW Microbus, but this version is loaded with infotainment, cabin comforts, and electric power. On looks alone, Volkswagen did a nice job paying homage to its predecessor, as you can see in this Volkswagen Bus Through the Years feature.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Powertrain 8.75/10

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz - volkswagen-nutzfahrzeuge.de

Volkswagen starts things off with a 282-horsepower single rear-mounted motor which is used on rear-wheel drive (RWD) models. It’s got 413 lb-ft of torque with a dual-stage one-speed gearbox. A more capable 335-horsepower 4motion all-wheel drive (AWD) model uses a dual-motor setup. Both variations use a 91-kWh Lithium-ion battery pack and connect to the wheels using a differential and a single-speed gearbox.

On a full charge, the RWD ID lasts for 234 miles with the Environmental Protection Agency estimating that it lasts 90 MPGe in city driving and 75 MPGe on the highway. 4Motion AWD models can get 231 miles with an estimated 87 MPGe in the city and 74 MPGe on the highway. This is a van, not a powerhouse, so the towing numbers aren’t really anything impressive. The RWD model has a maximum tow capacity of 2,600 lbs. and the AWD version can handle 3,500 lbs.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Interior 9.5/10

With three rows to work with the ID.Buzz seats six or seven people, depending on whether you get the second-row captain’s chairs or a second-row bench seat. Obviously, a passenger van like this, one that’s not designed just for cargo, provides a lot of space for passengers to sit, stretch, and enjoy the trip ahead of them. The first row provides 37.5 inches of legroom while the second row has 39.9 inches, and the third row offers 42.4 inches. Headroom measures over 42 inches from front to back.

In addition to the generous leg, shoulder, and headroom, there are large windows on all sides of the Buzz, giving everyone a great view of the passing scenery. Many models can even be equipped with a panoramic sunroof, providing even more visibility.

The cabin adds a lot of versatility with extra cubby spaces spread throughout, and the center console is even removable. While there are several hard plastic areas on the dashboard, the seats are made of a perforated V-Tex leatherette material. They’re well cushioned, providing a good amount of extra comfort with 12-way power adjustable front seats. Passengers up front also get four-way lumbar support and memory seating.

When it comes to cargo space, you’ll find a minimal 18.6 cu-ft behind the third row. The third row doesn’t fold down by the way. To expand cargo space, you’ll have to remove that third-row bench. If you do that, you’ll get 75.5 cu-ft of space behind the second row. With the third row removed and the second row folded, there’s 145.5 cubes behind the first row. For reference, typical vans, like the 2025 Chrysler Voyager and 2025 Kia Carnival have 140.5 cu-ft and 145.1 cu-ft of maximum cargo space respectively.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Technology Features 8.25/10

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz - volkswagen-nutzfahrzeuge.de

There’s no retro feeling about the technology, but some of it could be easier to use. For example, you need to click a button to get the air controls to pop up on the 12.9-inch touchscreen, and then you have to use the touchscreen to make any air flow changes. Cabin temperature and sound are both controlled via the touchscreen. The system is mostly responsive, but hard knobs and controls are still preferable over swiping, pinching, and tapping on the touchscreen.

Connectivity isn’t an issue, as there are eight USB-C ports scattered throughout the cabin. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard features, and there’s a charging pad that’s even ventilated to prevent overheating. There’s also a long list of standard driver assist features, like blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a lane-departure warning, and a rearview camera.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Pro S - vw.com

 Pro S – $59,995

There’s plenty of infotainment at this level. There’s wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice control, and adjustable ambient interior lighting with 30 different colors. Between the five speakers in the front and four speakers in the rear, there are nine speakers in total.

Every ID.Buzz model comes with three-zone automatic climate control, powered sliding doors, and side mirrors that are heated, foldable, and power-adjustable. The front seats are heated and ventilated front seats with a massaging function.

A rearview camera, parking assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a partially autonomous Travel Assist feature are some of the other safety and driver assistance features.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Pro S Plus - vw.com

Pro S Plus – $63,495

There are more features all the way around here. Added safety features include a 360-degree overhead camera and a head-up display. A 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is included to liven the cabin up, and a panoramic sunroof is available to enhance the experience. Convenience is also added in the form of a hands-free liftgate and second-row Captain’s Chairs.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz 1st Edition - vw.com

1st Edition – $65,495

There’s not much variation between the Pro S Plus and the 1st Edition at all. The only real notable differences include special 1st Edition badging on the vehicle and on the alloy wheels, making this model one that’s for big-time VW fans.

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Overall Value 8.5/10

I’m usually on the cheaper side of things when it comes to new vehicles, especially those that have a long list of standard features. That’s the case here. Volkswagen equipped the Pro S with a multitude of safety features and most everything that the Pro Plus S has to offer, too. Outside of the Pro Plus S having an overhead rearview camera and the Captain’s Chairs, there’s not much that’s tempting me to spend an extra $4,000.

All 2025 ID.Buzz models have bumper-to-bumper new vehicle limited warranty that’s good for four years or 50,000 miles. It can be transferred to secondary owners throughout the remainder of the warranty, too. There’s also a limited warranty on the battery; this one is good for eight years or 100,000 miles. It applies to defects in material, workmanship, or net capacity loss that’s below 70%.

Carsforsale.com Overall Score 9/10

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz – volkswagen-nutzfahrzeuge.de|  Shop 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz on Carsforsale.com

This is a huge win for fans of the original Volkswagen Microbus, fans of electric vehicles, or fans of more van options. Volkswagen nailed the retro styling, the massive windows, and some of the technology features inside of it. However, where it lacks is the lack of cargo space, the cumbersome dismantling of the third-row seats, and the unimpressive range.

Granted, it is a larger vehicle and this van is fully electric, but the Buzz isn’t ready to compete with hybrid vans like the 2025 Toyota Sienna, which can go an estimated 650 miles between fill-ups. The 2025 ID.Buzz is definitely a welcome addition to Volkswagen’s lineup, but factoring in the high-priced starting point, it’s got a little work to do.
