These are the MVPs of Justin Verlander’s Garage

Justin Verlander isn’t just a legendary MLB pitcher. He’s also the proud owner of dozens of Ferrari, Ford, and Mercedes-Benz sports cars!

Justin Verlander’s Car Collection is Built for Speed

As celebrity car collections go, Justin Verlander may be the most criminally overlooked celebrity car collector there is. When he’s not pitching from the mound, he’s driving around in his incredible coupes, convertibles, and sports cars or he’s posting pics of his incredible cars. Or he’s posting pics of himself driving around in his incredible cars. No matter which one it is, the Houston Astros pitcher has some beautiful, expensive cars in his collection! As you’re about to see, Verlander has acquired a great mix of different styles, makes, and models, but, just like rockstar Sammy Hagar, Verlander is a Ferrari guy. He owns at least half a dozen of them. Take a look!

Aston Martin DBS

There are plenty of Ferraris to choose from, but we’ll start with the little bit of variety Verlander has in his collection. This metallic silver 2021 DBS set him back about $345,000. First introduced in 2018, the luxury grand tourer, available as a coupe or convertible, replaced the second-generation Vanquish. With a front mid-engine setup, the turbocharged V12 is capable of 725 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque! Verlander was sidelined with an elbow injury in 2020 and 2021, but getting this Superleggera had to have made him feel at least a little better. The metallic silver isn’t a color you’ll see too often. Well, the car itself isn’t one you’ll see too often because production for each of the different DBS editions has been limited to hundreds, or sometimes dozens, of units.

Lamborghini Aventador Roadster

Even though Verlander ordered this Lambo in 2012, after he earned the designation of the 2011 American League Most Valuable Player, Verlander didn’t get to actually drive it until 2014. Verlander ordered through a Michigan dealership when he was with the Detroit Tigers. When it finally arrived, he had it transported to Florida so he could drive it into spring training. After waiting for a car for two years, you’d want to drive it as much as you can, too.

This orange-colored LP 700-4 roadster puts out more than 700 horsepower with 500 lb-ft of torque thanks to a 6.5-liter V12 engine and seven-speed auto-shift manual transmission with an overdrive function. It’s a pretty good set up, especially for speed. It also cost around $400,000. Verlander’s Virginia home has space for just eight vehicles, but I have a hard time believing he limits his ownership to just eight. He’s got to have a garage someplace. I mean, he’s got at least eight Ferraris alone!

Ferrari 458 Italia

OK, we’ve waited long enough. Let’s get into some of the Ferraris! First up, the 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia that Verlander purchased in 2013 for around $250,000. The high-powered sports car goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in under 3.5 seconds thanks to the rear-mounted 4.5-liter V8 and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission! It delivers 570 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. The 458 was the first Ferrari Verlander purchased after making it big in MLB. He was financially secure, so the time was right to indulge in the dream car he had always wanted to own. Of course, this is just one of his many Ferraris these days. There are plenty more to talk about, so we’ll put the petal to the metal and move onto some others.

Ferrari 550 Maranello

Just like most of the Ferraris Verlander owns, this 550 Maranello was produced in low numbers, making it a rarity. Between the 1996 and 2002 production years, Ferrari only made 3,083 550 Maranello models. Also, like most of the other Ferraris in Verlander’s collection, this one goes fast! The six-speed manual transmission and 5.5-liter engine put out 478 horsepower and 421 lb-ft of torque with a 0 to 60 speed of just over four seconds.

Verlander let his dad drive this one (and probably some of the others). It’s appropriate because Verlander’s love of Ferraris came from his childhood. His father wasn’t extraordinarily wealthy, but he would find some great deals on the used lots. When Verlander was in high school, he’d drive his father’s ‘94 Corvette every now and then, but the cars that were plastered all over his bedroom walls were Ferraris. After realizing his dream of playing pro baseball, Verlander realized his childhood dream of owning a Ferrari, so these days it’s a full circle moment when Verlander lets his dad drive his sports cars every now and then.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Unlike some of the other celebrity car collectors out there, Justin Verlander doesn’t restrict his purchases to a particular color. Silver, blue, black, red, orange, and yellow cars all have a place in his collection. This yellow Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano convertible probably had an easier time earning its place because of the Ferrari badging. That’s an automatic advantage. It also performs well, though. The 6.0-liter V12 engine was mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and kicked out 612 horsepower and 448 lb-ft of torque. That made it the most powerful series production Ferrari road car ever when it was first introduced as a 2007 model. It could go 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds! Production lasted until 2012.

Ferrari Monza

One of the more recent Ferraris that Verlander scooped up was this 2020 Ferrari Monza. Still in its first generation, the Monza was only just released in 2019. There’s a SP1 version with one seat and a SP2 version with two seats. Production is, of course, limited. A variant of Ferrari’s 6.5-liter F140 GA V12 generates 799 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque. The Monza took the record as the most powerful factory-produced V12 road car Ferrari ever produced! Verlander is a two-time World Series champion and nine-time All-Star, so we know he’s got the money to afford this $1.75 million gem, but let’s just hope Verlander knows of some nice stretches of road that can really push it to its full potential.

Ford GT

I think we’ve pretty much established that Verlander likes a good Ferrari, but he’s also got a few Fords in his garage, too. Verlander was extra excited about getting this 2017 Ford GT, and he should have been. After all, he was one of just 500 people to claim ownership despite over 7,000 people applying. John Cena, who has a great collection of his own, was another of the lucky 500. It also cost around $500,000! Verlander’s version looks great in a liquid ice blue paint job and performs even better with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V60 that’s good for 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. The supercar may not have the Ferrari label, but it fits right in with the rest of Verlander’s collection.

Ford Mustang

You know Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds, right? Well, the Verlander wanted to add an Eleanor to his own garage. This Mustang was purchased in a much less impressive condition, though. Verlander’s father bought it for him as a reward for getting accepted into college. Verlander has slowly but surely restored the ride to mimic that of the one from the movie. The ‘67 Mustang was customized to be a replica of the movie version, it’s not 100% movie accurate. The taillights, the gas cap, and the side mirrors aren’t quite the same, but it’s close enough to satisfy Verlander. The customizing cost around $200,000. It’s not clear how capable this replica is, but there must be something good under the hood at a cost of $200,000.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

Here’s another two-seater that sits in Verlander’s garage. Beyond the Ferraris, there’s something about a Mercedes that cements someone’s status, especially if it’s this one. Verlander already owned a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, but only a few hundred of these Black Series models were made, and under 200 of them were even available in the U.S. Michael Jordan is one of the other owners of the Black Series, so Verlander is in good company. It maxes out at 196 miles per hour and goes from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds. The power of the 2014 SLS Black Series comes from a 6.3-liter V8 and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that moves 622 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque.

Ferrari 488 Pista

OK, one more Ferrari to close this list out. This one is too good to not highlight. The dark red color, the white racing stripe, and the gold-colored wheels certainly make a great first impression, but it also delivers when it comes to speed! 2.85 seconds is how long it takes to go from 0 to 60 mph. Meanwhile, 124 mph can be achieved in 7.6 seconds and go as fast as 211 mph.

Verlander ordered his 488 Pista through Ferrari’s Tailor Made program, allowing buyers to customize the finishing touches. The customization ends when it comes to what’s underneath, though, so this 488 Pista has the same 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 that (making 720 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque) as the other 488 Pista models. After buying so many Ferraris over the years, it only made sense that Verlander would venture into customizing one with styling exactly the way he wanted it.

Half a Dozen Other Cars

Justin Verlander has been a Major League Baseball pitcher for over 20 years now, so of course he’s got more cars in his collection! Some of them pictured in the gallery above include a BMW M760i, a Maserati Gran Turismo, and a Mercedes-Benz SL55. He’s also purchased a Ferrari F8 Spider, a Ferrari 488 GTB, a Ferrari F12 TDF, a Ferrari F12berlinetta, and a Ferrari California T for his wife, model and actress Kate Upton.

Verlander probably also has a few large SUVs as family haulers because these cars certainly won’t fit Verlander, his wife, his young daughter, and his dog all at once. No, these cars are built for speed, not practicality. So, when Verlander’s not pitching a couple of dozen games a season or on daddy daycare duty, there’s plenty of fun to be had out on the open road.
