A recall of over one million Stellantis vehicles has been issued. Find out if your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram is affected.
Over one million Stellantis vehicles are being recalled due to a software issue that causes the rearview camera to not display. While you may be able to reverse like the vehicles the other vehicles on the road that don’t possess a rearview camera, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) feels that it creates an accident risk. The other issue that comes about from this faulty rearview camera display is that the vehicles no longer meet the requirement set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, a standard that specifies requirements for rear visibility devices and systems on new vehicles.

This recall affects 2021-2023 Chrysler Pacifica minivans, 2021-2022 Dodge Durango SUVs, 2022-2023 Jeep Compass SUVs, 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs, 2022-2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs. Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks from 2022 are also affected along with the Ram Promasters from 2022-2023.

Stellantis plans to notify affected owners via mail by August 2, 2024. The fix for the faulty software seems simple thankfully. Dealers will need to update the radio software to correct the faults in the rearview display software. However, the actual software update isn’t currently available at dealerships, so concerned customers will have to wait until Stellantis rolls out this fix to dealerships. When the fix is available, it will come at no additional cost to the owners of the affected vehicles. Affected owners will just have to back out with caution for now, like we all did before the widespread adoption of rearview cameras.
