As we crack the halfway mark on 2025, it’s time to start thinking about when the 2026 cars will come out. If you’re in the market for an upcoming model, whether it be all-new like the 2026 Passport, redesigned, or simply next year’s version, it’s worth noting that automakers generally start delivering these models to dealerships in the fall of 2025. Which will be here before you know it. Not all car companies follow this model, like Tesla for an example, but typically new cars are shown off in the springtime before arriving in the fall.
For those interested in cutting-edge technology, the latest electric vehicle (EV) improvements, or simply an exciting new ride, you’ll soon be able to start laying eyes on your next ride. In at least one instance, as we’ll detail below, the 2026 model is already here. You’d be correct in assuming that the major 2026 car trends center around crossovers, a more robust EV lineup, autonomous driving technology, and smaller displacement internal combustion-powered vehicles. However, the electrified future hasn’t fully arrived just yet, as evidenced by this cross-section of compelling 2026 vehicles worthy of your attention.
Bucking several of those aforementioned car trends, the all-new 6th generation Audi A6 is due to arrive later this year in its traditional sedan form with a powerful gas-powered V6 under the hood. Slightly longer than its long-running predecessor, the 2026 A6 is notably sleeker on the outside, but still very clearly an Audi executive sedan. The German automaker claims a rather slippery 0.23 coefficient of drag for the upcoming A6, along with other under-the-skin changes like improved door, glass, and trunk sealing for a more serene cabin.
The prior turbocharged four-cylinder engine goes away in favor of a standard 3.0L turbocharged V6, now making 362 horsepower. Audi’s quattro AWD system remains standard, but the cabin on 2026 models will feature a sweeping infotainment interface consisting of an 11.9” instrument panel and a 14.5” central touchscreen. Options range from 21” wheels and an electrochromic glass roof to a front passenger dash display and a 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. Expect to pay at least $65,000 for this all-new Audi sedan.
Hot on the heels of the Kia K4 sedan that arrived for the 2025 model year to replace the Forte compact car is something very different, at least for American roads. The Kia K4 Hatchback, which looks more like a tiny station wagon, blends the affordability of the roughly $23,000 K4 sedan with the practicality and arguably better looks, of a hatchback body. Kia calls the rear-end a “floating roof design” and notes that these K4s can hold 24 cubic feet of cargo behind the rear seats, which is nearly 10 more than the sedan’s trunk can manage.
Shorter than its sedan stablemate, the new K4 hatchback is due towards the end of this year with a starting price close to the standard model. The same 147-horse inline-4 found in the sedan will be standard in the hatchback and likewise, these new K4s will offer a turbocharged mill mustering 190 hp. Other notable features include an ultra-wide sunroof, climate-controlled front seats, and some 30” of digital screen real estate. Kudos to Kia for heading into 2026 with a car that is very much not a crossover.
If you thought the Chevy Bolt EV was gone, you’d be right, as the automaker discontinued it circa 2023. But the Bolt – not to be confused with the Volt hybrid – is back for 2026, sporting an all-new outlook on life. It will ride on General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and is expected to offer between 200 and 300 miles of driving range. If the estimated $30,000 starting price holds true, the second-generation Bolt could give popular small EVs like the Tesla Model 3 a run for their money.
Given Chevy’s plans for NACS charging capability, the Bolt will also be happy to juice up at Tesla’s Supercharger stations. Though the Bolt was previously only sold as a FWD car, the Ultium architecture allows for FWD, RWD, or AWD, so don’t be surprised to see more drivetrain options when the 2026 Bolt shows up later in the year. Chevy has said the new Bolt will be its most affordable electric vehicle that will kick off a whole new family of variants, but final details won’t be revealed until the new Bolt arrives later this year.
Subaru has already pulled the wraps off its all-new 7th-generation Outback, but it’s not on sale just yet. That’s not expected to happen until late 2025, but in the meantime, you can dig into all the details about this latest iteration of Subaru’s long-running off-road station wagon. Mainly the fact that the Outback leans more heavily into the SUV space than ever before, with big, chunky design cues like the swaths of black plastic body cladding running across its decidedly bold new bod.
Under the hood are familiar powertrains that carry over from the 2025 Outback, including a naturally aspirated or turbocharged four-pot. The roofline has been raised 2 inches to accommodate more cargo and the rails on top are now rated for a beefy 800 pounds. Other highlights of this popular Subie are the new “low-fatigue” seats said to improve long-haul comfort and upgraded driver aids like the emergency stop assist with safe lane selection system. Subaru is also bringing its harder-core Wilderness off-road version back with 9.5 inches of ground clearance, but you’ll have to wait until early 2026 to get your hands on it. `
The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 is already here and available for purchase on dealer lots. Similar in size to the automaker’s 3-row Palisade, the Ioniq 9 is all-electric, riding on the same E-GMP platform as the Kia EV9. Futuristic styling leads the way with this new Ioniq, highlighted by the thin LED lightbar running across the front and pixelated taillamp design that wraps around the top of the tailgate.
This largest vehicle in Hyundai’s Ioniq EV sub-brand ranges between $60,000 and $79,000, offers up to 335 miles of driving range, and is capable of charging the battery to 80% in about 24 minutes using 350 kW DC ultra-fast charging. Standard features include 19” wheels and a 12.3” central touchscreen. Speed demons should look to the 442-horsepower Performance model, and all buyers will appreciate optional niceties like a panoramic moonroof, a power-folding third row, and a head-up display.
