Exciting Speed & Extra Space

Your traditional sports cars are fun and fast, but they usually only carry enough space for two people inside and a cargo space big enough for a set of golf clubs. Luckily, auto manufacturers have put together some performance-oriented SUVs that’ll give you the acceleration you need and the space you want. These fast SUVs can accelerate to 60 mph in under four seconds while also featuring a cabin space large enough for four or more passengers and extra room for your things. Some of these SUVs can even achieve top speeds that exceed 180 mph! Find the perfect ride to show off to your friends by checking out the fastest SUVs of 2024.

Bently Bentayga Speed

Bentley Bentayga Speed - bentleymedia.com

Bently is known for producing vehicles that are exceedingly luxurious inside and out. Their Bentayga SUV provides that same posh experience while also being able to launch from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Inside is a heightened interior with leather wrapped surfaces and luxurious metal and wood accenting. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 producing an exceptional 542 horsepower sent through an 8-speed automatic transmission to the standard all-wheel drive. This isn’t the unique powerhouse that was the W12 engine from previous years, but this V8 coupled with the Dynamic Ride automatic anti-roll system, all-wheel steering, and lavish interior make it a comfortable, capable, and fast SUV choice.

Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat

The gas guzzling Dodge Durango is on its way out, so this may be the “Last Call” to get the SRT Hellcat version of this SUV. The Durango SRT Hellcat carries a supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 that churns out 710 horsepower that’s put through an 8-speed automatic to the full-time all-wheel drive setup. That powerplant allows the Durango to sprint to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. While that doesn’t make it the fastest three-row SUV overall (more on that one later), it does make it the fastest strictly gas-powered three-row option.

Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance

While the primary benefit to switching to electric is less emissions, these electric vehicles have taken over as some of the quickest models on the market. The Ford Mustang Mach-E for instance offers the exciting GT Performance Edition which utilizes dual electric motors to produce 459 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. This electric setup places a motor on each axle giving it AWD and the Magneride suspension keeps this electric SUV as it launches to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Doing that too often will mean more stops to charge, but it’s still pretty fun.

Tesla Model Y Performance

Tesla has been the leader in electric vehicle production for a while now and they actually feature two of the fastest SUVs on this list. The first is the Model Y Performance that carries AWD through dual electric motors that unite to put out 470 horsepower. This allows the Model Y to go from a dead stop to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. You also get one of the most technologically packed driving experiences with its multiple infotainment screens and Autopilot self-driving capabilities.

Kia has made an impact on the electric vehicle boom with their Kia EV6 GT. This small, sporty looking crossover SUV can achieve a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 thanks to its 576-horsepower electric setup. Not only does the GT model gain that potent dual motor, AWD configuration to achieve that quick acceleration, Kia also updates the EV6 GT with a firmer chassis, adaptive suspension, better brakes, and an electronic limited-slip differential to make it a nice driver around corners when up to speed. The inside may not feel quite as lavish or technologically advanced as most of the other options here, but it does come in at a lower price point too.

Hyundai has their own version of the Kia EV6 known as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and it heightens what Kia brings to the table. When this model is given the N performance treatment, it too can go from 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds, but Hyundai boasts some differences over the Kia model. For one, the Ioniq 5 N’s dual electric motor AWD produces 641 horsepower when the N Grin Boost feature is selected, plus its list of performance additions is longer and better for a better track-ready experience. And that comes for about only $5,000 more over the Kia version.

GMC Hummer EV SUV

While other electric SUVs are focused on sleek and economical designs, GM decided this was the perfect time to bring back the unwieldy Hummer with an electric powertrain. The GMC Hummer EV SUV is still the behemoth shaped model we remember, but it’s been updated with modern architecture, design, and technology. This modern-day Hummer also was given an electric tri-motor powertrain that produces 830 horsepower. When the Watts to Freedom (WTF) launch-control mode is enabled, the Hummer lowers itself 3.5 inches and bursts forward to hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. That is an astonishing time for a vehicle that weighs over 8,000 pounds.

Let’s take a break from the EVs and check out this speedster of an SUV from Ferrari. The Purosangue is relatively new to the market, but Ferrari isn’t jumping on the electrification bandwagon with this all-new entrant. Instead, the Ferrari Purosangue carries a 6.5L V12 engine that pumps out 715 horsepower. All four wheels spin as that naturally aspirated powerplant pushes the Ferrari SUV to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 193 mph. You get the prancing horse notoriety, a powerful V12, athletic handling, and seating for four.

Alright, another electric SUV with staggering speed is the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric. This top-of-the-line performance model produces 630 horsepower from the dual-motor electric powertrain. Those motors on each axle create an AWD setup that couples with the active torque vectoring system enabling the Macan Turbo Electric to speed from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. While this electric Porsche SUV provides the power and seating we’re looking for, there’s another from the German sports car manufacturer that does it better.

Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT

Another Porsche SUV of note is the Cayenne Turbo GT, but this one achieves the same 3.1 second 0-60 mph sprint with a traditional internal combustion engine. Under its hood is a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 650 horsepower. Where the Cayenne beats its electric stablemate is at top speed. The Macan Turbo Electric tops out at 162 mph while the Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT powers onward to a top speed of 190 mph. It also comes with a nicer interior and basically doubles its price in comparison to Porsche’s other SUV.

Aston Martin DBX707

The DBX707 carries a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumping out 697 horsepower. While this British performance SUV is technically rear wheel focused drivetrain, it holds a center differential that’ll redirect power to the front wheels when necessary. From a dead stop, the DBX707 can sprint to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and then continue upwards to a top speed of 193 mph – the current highest top speed for a production SUV.

This electric powertrain coupled with its extensive aero and added carbon fiber construction allows the Eletre to launch from 0 to 60 mph in 2.95 seconds. Not only that, but it can climb to a top speed of 165 mph – the highest top speed of a production electric SUV. The Chinese manufactured EV wearing British sports car branding is an interesting entrant and will hopefully do the Lotus brand proud.

Rivian R1S Ascend Quad Max

Rivian R1S - rivian.com
Rivian R1S - rivian.com

Rivian is the other electric vehicle powerhouse in the American market just behind Tesla. Their R1S electric SUV is predominantly about travelling through town and moderate off-roading, but the optional Quad Max powertrain makes it the second fastest SUV right now. Rivian places an electric motor at each wheel that together produces 1025 all-electric horsepower. When putting the pedal to the floor, the R1S Ascend Quad Max rockets to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. While that sprint will be insanely quick, the R1S does top out at 130 mph, so don’t expect to outperform gas competitors at the half mile drag.

Tesla Model X Plaid

Tesla Model X- tesla.com

It’s no secret that the Tesla Model X Plaid delivers ludicrous speed. Elon Musk and his devout fanboys have been sure to flaunt the gut punching acceleration that this electric SUV can offer. The dual motor setup found on the Plaid version of the Model X combines for 532 horsepower. That may not seem like much power in comparison to the models above, but Tesla’s Ludicrous Speed mode absolutely rockets this SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. The speedometer will stop moving at 163 mph, but it’s already left most of the competition in the dust by that time. A highly technological vehicle, Autopilot operation, unique entertainment tech, and one of the fastest SUVs for sale today.
