After debuting in 2021, the fourth-generation Kia Sorento receives a mid-cycle refresh for 2024. Changes versus the 2023 Sorento include an exterior that looks more like the square-jawed Telluride, a revised cabin layout with available dual 12.3” screens arranged in a curved panorama, additional advanced driver aids, and a standard 12.3” infotainment interface. An X-Pro also joins the lineup with more aggressive off-road looks and all-terrain tires. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the Sorento carry over from 2023 unchanged, but are scheduled to receive the same upgrades for 2025.
Hybrid fuel efficiency
Low entry price
Strong towing capacity
Confusing trim names
Light on third-row legroom
Expensive PHEV
The Sorento looks better than ever

In LX and S trim, the 2025 Kia Sorento is powered by a 2.5L inline-4 making 191 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with an 8-speed automatic to spin the front wheels or, optionally, all four. Fuel efficiency comes in at 26 mpg combined for FWD models or 1 less when AWD is fitted. The rest of the lineup gets a turbocharged version good for 281 horses and 311 torques that works with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Fuel economy drops to 23 mpg combined for this engine regardless of drivetrain.
For an extra $500-$600, EX and SX Prestige models can be equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid mill that makes 277 hp and sips fuel at a rate of 36 mpg combined for FWD Sorentos or 34 with AWD. Or you can pony up as much $9,900 to add a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain to the same two models. The PHEV Sorento is AWD only, earns 33 mpg combined, and offers 30 miles of electric driving range. Towing capacity for the 2025 Sorento ranges from 2,000 pounds on base models to 4,500 with the X-Pro SX Prestige.
Thanks to coming standard with three rows of seating, the Sorento has an automatic leg up over some of the best two-row mid-size SUVs on the market. Granted, the third row offers just 30” of legroom, so is best suited to small humans, but the Sorento is aimed squarely at the family demographic, so it makes sense. The second row is more spacious with 42” of legroom and max cargo space measures 75 cubic feet when the back two rows are folded down.
The second row slides and folds for flexible loading, the acoustic laminated windshield aims to keep exterior noise muffled, and with the Kia Connect software, you can pre-heat or cool your Sorento before getting in. Upholstery ranges from cloth on base models to leather in a variety of colors on the SX Prestige with heated front seats and automatic climate control included on S models and above.

New for 2024, every Sorento comes with a 12.3” central touchscreen and wireless integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The standard subscription-based Kia Connect system features remote vehicle connectivity, but the audiophile-friendly 12-speaker Bose system is reserved for the SX Prestige models.
Kia’s Drive Wise suite of driver aids is robust, featuring forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system, and automatic high beams as standard. The 2024 Sorento earns high marks in crash testing with a 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS.

The entry-level Sorento features 17” alloy wheels, LED headlights, cloth upholstery, and a 6-speaker stereo system.
In S spec, the Sorento gains 18” wheels, SynTex upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, parking sensors, Wi-Fi, and Highway Driving Assist (HDA) technology.
The Sorento SX is well-equipped with 20” wheels, all LED exterior lighting, ventilated front seats, a fully digital gauge cluster, a live feed of blind spots, and HDA 2.

Building off the EX model, X-Line trim adds AWD, special 20” wheels, and black-finished trim, along with LED cabin lighting.
Like the regular SX, X-Line versions feature LED taillights, a surround-view monitor, digital key tech, and Highway Driving Assist.
With the Prestige moniker, the Sorento boasts a choice of black, green, or brown leather upholstery, AWD, heated rear seats, and acoustic laminated front windows.

Matching the X-Line SX Prestige Sorento for content, the X-Pro variant adds special seat embossing and matte black 17” wheels with all-terrain rubber.
The 2024 Kia Sorento in S trim is an excellent value. At about $35,000, it undercuts the base Toyota Highlander by some $5,000, while delivering a higher level of technology and coming with desirable content like heated front seats and semi-autonomous driving tech. Plus, Kia’s 10-year powertrain coverage is twice as long as Toyota’s, though Kia does not offer any complimentary maintenance.

Kia has established itself as the value leader in almost every automotive segment, but that doesn’t mean its vehicles are somehow lesser. Just the opposite with the 2024 Sorento as a perfect example. It’s very reasonably priced, looks great with its revised styling, comes loaded with standard technology and driver aids, and continues to have one of the best warranties in the business.
The Sorento PHEV is too pricey to be worthwhile for most, but the regular hybrid is not and is very thrifty on gas. Or you can keep the budget tight and go with an entry-level regular Sorento. It would seem Kia has built a Sorento for almost every need and that makes it a strong contender in a crowded segment.
