The 2025 Ford Expedition marks the start of the fifth generation of Ford’s largest SUV. Its footprint remains the same as the 2024 Expedition, and it is still available in extended-length MAX spec, but the exterior gains a new front fascia and rear-end design, optional 24” wheels, and a split tailgate. Leading the changes inside is a standard 24” digital display tucked above a central 13.2” infotainment interface. The base EcoBoost V6 now makes 400 hp, and Ford’s Tremor series arrives in the Expedition lineup with a heavy dose of off-road upgrades.

Still enormous, now with more amenities
A 3.5L twin-turbo V6 good for 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque is the base 2025 Expedition engine. It pairs with a 10-speed automatic to spin the rear wheels. Four-wheel drive is optional on the Active model and standard across the rest of the lineup. Tremor models feature a high-output variant of the boosted V6 that makes 440 hp and 510 lb-ft, which can be fitted as an option to Platinum versions.
Towing tops out at 9,600 pounds and all Expeditions come with a Class IV hitch receiver, trailer sway control, and a trailer brake controller. Fuel economy measures 16 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined for RWD models, figures that drop by 1-2 mpg when 4WD is fitted.
Cavernous as the 2025 Ford Expedition is in the cabin, it tops out at 123 cubic feet of cargo space in MAX trim – which adds $3,000 to the bottom line. That’s big, but the Chevy Suburban, which we compare to the Ford here, is bigger with 145 cubes behind the first row.
There are 8 seats in the Expedition, unless you go with second-row captain’s chairs, which drops occupancy to 7, and every model comes with triple-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, and an acoustic laminated windshield. Legroom comes in at 41” for the 2nd row and 36” for the third, and luxury amenities like climatized and massaging front seats are included with the Platinum model.
New this year, the Expedition features a standard 24” wide dashboard screen that pairs with a 13.2” central touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, and a surround-view monitor are all standard as well. The range-topping Expedition King Ranch sports a 22-component Bang & Olufsen audio system versus the Platinum model that “makes do” with a 10-speaker setup.
Aside from the base trim, all 2025 Ford Expeditions come with a 90-day trial to BlueCruise hands-free driving tech. Other standard safety nets include forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Though the 2025 Expedition has yet to be tested by the NHTSA, last year’s model earned a 5-star overall rating from the safety agency.
In entry-level Active trim, the 2025 Ford Expedition comes with 18” wheels mounted with all-terrain tires, a power-operated split tailgate, LED headlights, and heated side mirrors. Cabin content includes cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable steering column, a surround-view monitor, and USB ports for all 3 rows of seating.
Platinum models jump in price by $12,000, for which you get 20” wheels, a panoramic moonroof, and exterior zone lighting. These Expeditions also come with power-adjustable pedals, heated second-row seats, and a wireless phone charging pad.
In off-road-centric Tremor spec, the Expedition gets the high-output engine, a 1” suspension lift, 33” all-terrain tires, Electric Spice accents, and Ford’s trail control system.
King Ranch models feature 22” Sinister Bronze wheels, adaptive dampers, and exclusive Del Rio leather with Kingsville stitching and stamped W logos scattered around the cabin. Like the Platinum trim line, it also features rain-sensing wipers, acoustic laminated windows, a heated steering wheel, and a driver attention monitor.
Considering the nearly $75,000 sticker price that enters the conversation from Platinum models and above, it’s easy to recommend the base Expedition Active as it is very highly equipped. A new Chevy Tahoe LS has a similar price and does have more cargo space, but the Expedition’s base engine is quite a bit more powerful and it has a higher towing capacity. Ford’s warranty is similar to Chevy’s with 3 years of basic coverage and a 5-year powertrain term, but Ford does not include any complimentary maintenance.

The all-new 2025 Ford Expedition is a prime specimen of the ultra-huge SUV breed. The engine comes in strong or thundering flavors, its array of standard infotainment screens is dazzling, and Ford makes BlueCruise more widely available than ever. Plus, for off-road fans, the new Tremor model is legit. Though the price tags are high, they’re not out of line with the competition.
However, the Platinum model with the Ultimate package and its 24” wheels, fancy trim, and upgraded trim punches the sticker price up past $91,000. That is still a lot of money and starts approaching Lincoln Navigator territory. Fortunately, used Expeditions are still pretty nice, and you can always stick with the Active model and its impressive roster of standard content.
There is one engine in the 2025 Expedition, a twin-turbo V6 that makes 400 hp in base spec and 440 in high-output setup.
The 2025 Expedition is 78.1” tall, or approximately 6 ½ feet.
The Expedition Max is a 12” longer version of the standard Expedition that competes with the Chevy Suburban.
