What is New for the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander

Though it sits atop the Mitsubishi lineup, the Outlander is a compact SUV that shares a platform with the Nissan Rogue and competes with similar vehicles like the Honda CR-V. It is the rare small SUV that comes standard with a third row and it also offers a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain for a significant upcharge. A long list of changes over the 2024 Outlander are part of a mid-cycle refresh that includes a retuned chassis, a newly standard 12.3” infotainment interface, upgraded cabin materials, a fresh face, and a revised audio system by Yamaha.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Powertrain 8/10

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander - mitsubishi.com

The base 2025 Outlander engine is a naturally aspirated 2.5L four-cylinder rated for 181 horsepower and lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a CVT to spin the front wheels, though AWD is available for an extra $2,000 on all models except the Platinum, on which it comes standard. Fuel economy measures 24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined for FWD models with AWD variants bringing the highway and combined figures down by 1 mpg.

A PHEV variant blends a 2.4L inline-4 with a pair of battery-powered electric motors to make 248 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. AWD is standard on these Outlanders, but the upcharge ranges from more than $10,000 on the base ES to $6,000 for a Platinum Edition. Fuel efficiency is similar to the ICE models with AWD at 27 mpg combined, but these Outlander PHEVs do offer 38 miles of electric-only driving range. For those in the market for a family-friendly PHEV, the 2025 Outlander is worth a look.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Interior 7.75/10

The Outlander stands out for featuring a standard third row and room for 7 passengers. However, that row has just 19” of legroom, so although the Outlander is a solid SUV for families of 5, the kids would ideally be on the young side. To make up for it, the second row has 40” of legroom and max cargo space measures 64 cubic feet.

Automatic climate control is standard and upholstery ranges from cloth on base Outlanders to semi-aniline leather on the SEL Premium trim. On SE models and above, heated front seats come standard, while a panoramic moonroof arrives on the SE Tech variant.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Technology Features 8.25/10

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander - mitsubishi.com

New for 2025, every Outlander comes with a 12.3” central touchscreen and navigation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also part of the deal, along with a trial subscription to the Mitsubishi Connect suite of connectivity. All Outlanders have a Yamaha audio system, but the 12-speaker Ultimate setup requires at least an SE Tech model.

Mitsubishi delivers a long list of standard driver aids on the 2025 Outlander, including forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, a driver-attention monitor, and automatic high beams. The NHTSA gives the Outlander 4 stars overall in crash-test safety and the IIHS named the 2023 model a Top Safety Pick.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander SE - mitsubishi.com

SE – $33,395

SE models bring 20” wheels, a power-operated liftgate, passive entry, and rain-sensing wipers. Inside, amenities include faux leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control, and the MI-PILOT Assist semi-autonomous driving system.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander SE Tech- mitsubishi.com

SE Tech – $36,595

For about $3,000 extra, the SE Tech model adds a panoramic moonroof, a fully digital instrument panel, and the Yamaha Ultimate 12-speaker stereo.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL - mitsubishi.com

SEL – $38,295

In SEL guise, the Outlander builds off the SE and adds fancier exterior bits, quilted leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, the digital gauge cluster, and triple-zone automatic climate control.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition - mitsubishi.com

Trail Edition – $39,295

The Trail Edition Outlander sounds off-road-y, but it’s a basic appearance package consisting of black wheels, black badges and trim, black body cladding, and a black hood decal.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL Premium - mitsubishi.com

SEL Premium – $41,345

SEL Premium models take the Outlander SE and add special Brick Brown semi-aniline leather seats, the big Yamaha audio system, a head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Platinum Edition - mitsubishi.com

Platinum Edition – $44,445

The range-topping Platinum Edition sports a black finish with a silver roof, exterior ground illumination, satin trim pieces, scuff plates, a leather interior, and standard AWD.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Overall Value 8/10

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander SE is a strong all-around contender with desirable features like heated seats and adaptive cruise control, plus the good looks of 20” rims, for less than $35,000. That pricing pits it against the Volkswagen Tiguan SE, a compact crossover that is compelling with its adaptive headlights, big infotainment screen, and similar cabin content. However, Mitsubishi stands tall with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, 5-year basic term, and 2 years of complimentary maintenance.

Mitsubishi’s lineup is all crossovers as of 2025 and they range from small to very small, so it may not be the first place shoppers stop. However, the revised Outlander makes a case for changing that thinking. It’s on the same level of affordability as a Kia Sportage, while matching that automaker’s famed powertrain warranty and tacking on 2 years of included service.

The Outlander’s styling is refreshingly different and with this recent overhaul is very well equipped across the board. Factor in the Yamaha audio systems, upmarket features like semi-aniline leather and a big glass roof, and you have a very nice little crossover. The PHEV is expensive and the Trail Edition is a bit silly, but there are plenty of other Outlanders to choose from, each of which has its own merits.
