New Fords Might Have a Steering Problem

2,416 new Fords are already being recalled due to a potential flaw in how steering components were assembled. 2024 Ford Rangers along with 2024 and 2025 Ford Broncos are being recalled as their front steering assembly can fail. The issue stems from a nut on the front ball joint that secures the upper control arm to the knuckle assembly. This nut may have been mistorqued or even be completely missing from the steering assembly on the affected vehicles.

With that nut missing or improperly torqued, the vehicle is more difficult to steer and could result in an accident while at speed or simply create problematic maneuvering of the vehicle. The only way drivers are made aware of this issue is the resulting steering issues and a noticeable “clunk or rattle noise” as Ford noted. Ford also stated that they haven’t identified any accidents or resulting injuries in relation to the recall, although there were four reports that made them aware of the issue.

Ford has already sent out notification letters to affected customers as of October 28th. Ford is asking that affected customers bring their recalled vehicle to their local Ford dealership where the dealers will inspect and ensure that the fastening nut is installed properly. If they find that the nut is improperly torqued or missing, they will correct this with the correct torque or completely reinstalled fastening nut. The dealers will also replace the affected knuckle assembly and ball joint as necessary if there is any resulting damage. Thankfully, as this fix results from a recall, it comes free of charge to owners.
