Hands on with the 2026 Acura ADX

Acura’s subcompact SUV blends Integra-inspired performance, intuitive technology, and a hint of RDX style.

Acura’s Newest SUV

In 2025, Acura expanded its crossover lineup with the ADX, a so-called gateway model aimed at welcoming younger buyers into the Acura fold. The roughly $36,000 entry point was appealing – and has remained unchanged for 2026 – as it undercuts luxury competitors like the BMW X1 by some $10,000. That said, you might be getting a whiff of Honda HR-V from the rear three-quarter perspective.

The ADX does indeed share underpinnings with its mainstream stablemate’s smallest SUV, but Acura also points out the global architecture its ADX has in common with the Integra sports sedan. A spec sheet deep dive reveals that the Japanese automaker has in fact gone to great lengths to create a subcompact SUV that leans heavily on the Integra. After a week spent behind the wheel of a range-topping 2026 ADX A-Spec Advance, I wouldn’t say it’s the Integra in crossover clothes, but there is a lot to like about this new addition to the Acura portfolio.

One of the few updates to the ADX for 2026 is an available Double Apex Blue Pearl finish. I’d say Acura routinely nails the head-turning blue paint job design brief, and that’s the case here. A $600 option on A-Spec models, it’s a worthwhile upgrade that looks stunning in the sun. From the front, the ADX is all Acura with the brand’s signature Chicane LED lighting treatment extending from the DRL’s up front, around back to the taillamps.

Though riding on the same platform as the Honda HR-V, the ADX is about 6” longer, which can largely be chalked up to the more prominent schnoz. It works here, though the backend struggles to differentiate itself from the Honda. 18” wheels come standard, as does a sharply creased hood that adds style points. A-Spec models sport 19” rims, a panoramic moonroof, and gloss black trim. Walk-away auto-close for the tailgate is also included across the lineup. It’s a subtly excellent feature that lets you press the power close button, then gather an armful of cargo so you can walk away and have the tailgate shut itself after a delay.

Intuitive Interior Design

Perhaps the best aspect of the 2026 Acura ADX is its intuitive interior. Unlike so many new vehicles that aim to dazzle with their cutting-edge approaches to being a car, you won’t need a YouTube tutorial on how to use the ADX. There’s a traditional PRNDL shifter. The steering wheel is a circle (with a flat bottom on the A-Spec). And the basic controls – windows, door locks, etc. – are right where you expect them to be. However, the ADX still knows how to peacock.

Another 2026 update is the option for Orchid (blue) microsuede inserts that ribbon across the seats and door panels. That leather happens to be white, so watch for dirty kids, but when clean, this look is a knockout. Rear seat legroom measures 38” on paper. IRL, two adults can sit back there comfortably, but the ADX is small, so you’re unlikely to put three across the rear bench. Fold those seats down, and the 24 cubic foot cargo hold expands to 55, more than enough for two to enjoy a weekend getaway.

Behind The Wheel

Some of the clearest changes made to the Acura ADX over the Honda HR-V can be found behind the wheel. The suspension has been revised for a sportier feel with stiffer anti-roll bars and a special tune for the dampers and springs. There’s also increased sound deadening throughout, including fender liners, that lends the ADX a luxuriously quiet cabin while driving.

The ADX lifts the Integra’s turbocharged inline-4 and subtracts 10 horsepower for a total of 190. On that front, the more potent engine is a plus, but this is not a fast car. It does enjoy being pushed in the bendy bits, but building speed takes a beat. Which you’ll want to be judicious with, as Acura recommends filling the ADX with premium.

A CVT routes power to the front wheels, though AWD is a $2,000 option across the board. Acura includes its Step Shift programming for simulated gear changes, but I mostly found myself wishing the CVT was a traditional automatic to better fit the A-Spec Advance’s suggestion of sportiness.

Final Thoughts

The 2026 Acura ADX starts at $36,450 with destination charges, and the top-line A-Spec Advance comes in at $43,850. Acura has historically split the difference between mainstream and luxury, a position it maintains with the ADX. For about $28,000, you can get into a Honda HR-V. With roughly $45,000, you’re looking at the entry-level BMW X1 or Audi Q3.

Or, you could go the middle route and check out the Acura ADX. Personally, that’s the path I would take. Honda’s are great cars, but the Acura treatment in this case is worth the extra outlay. More power, tighter handling, and crisper styling. Some insist on paying for the perceived brand cachet of a German automotive badge, but the Acura ADX lives squarely in smart money territory – especially when you can find some new car incentives.

Niel Stender grew up doing replacement work on his 1990 Cherokee and 1989 Starion, so it’s not surprising that he would put his mechanical engineering degree from the University of New Hampshire to use in the car world as a vehicle dynamics engineer. Now engineering sentence structures, his writing infuses his auto experience with his time in marketing and his sales experience. Writing about cars for close to a decade now, he focuses on some of the more technical mechanical systems that are found under the hood and throughout a vehicle.
