For 2019 the Toyota Camry gets some new features that will help it continue as one of the most attractive mid-size sedans on the market.

What’s New for the 2019 Toyota Camry

The 2019 Toyota Camry sedan gains some small improvements and is better than ever. There’s a reason that the Camry is one of the best-selling cars in America year after year and the 2019 edition isn’t going to change that trend. In our short time with the car, we found that it’s highly competitive in nearly every facet of its design. While past generations weren’t particularly engaging, this latest model looks fun and backs that feeling up with great driving dynamics. It’s also more comfortable and efficient than ever before.

Just a year removed from the biggest update in Camry history, the 2019 model doesn’t get a ton of new equipment but buyers will be pleased with additions like a WiFi Hotspot standard across the range, Apple CarPlay compatibility (Android Auto is still nowhere to be found). A shark fin antenna is standard now. XLE, as well as XSE models, will all get the 8-inch infotainment system even when paired with the four-cylinder engine. Finally, some new paint colors are available.

2019 Toyota Camry Powertrain

Regardless of engine choice, the Camry is a capable car when it comes to power. The base four-cylinder mill isn’t particularly sporty but it’s so efficient that we can understand why some choose it. All engine options are paired with an 8-speed automatic that is really impressive and flexible. It’s great around town and very smooth. Put it into a corner and start using the paddles and it’s responsive and engaging there too.

The only downside of the drivetrain options in the Camry is the Hybrid variant that’s not as torquey as some of its rivals. Still, with a combined MPG rating of, at worst, 46mpg, it’s achieving its goals. Beyond that, the 301-horsepower V6 is sincerely quick and hits 60mph in just 5.8-seconds. That’s fast enough to keep up with almost anything on sale that’s not actually intended to be sporty. The suspension is nicely balanced and does a great job of minimizing torque steer as well. Steering is very responsive and satisfyingly weighted. Braking feedback can be a bit numb around town but at highway speeds, it’s linear and easy to predict.

2019 Toyota Camry Fuel Economy & MPG

We’ve danced around it a bit already but the Camry is a sincerely efficient car regardless of the engine. Even the thirstiest choice, the V6, gets 26mpg combined, which is still competitive in its class. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder achieves 32mpg at its worst, and then as mentioned above the Hybrid gets 46 but can reach 52 in the LE trim spec.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space

One of the hallmarks of the Camry has always been great interior comfort and the 2019 model is another great addition. Even tall individuals are going to be comfortable regardless of their seating position. Headroom in the rear isn’t class-leading but that’s the only blemish in here. Legroom is above average in both rows. The front seats are particularly outstanding in terms of comfort and positioning. Even long drives are easy thanks to multiple adjustment controls and excellent support.

We really liked how easy it is to see out of the Camry. The low beltline really aids in that ability. The overall interior quality is good too. Soft-touch materials are everywhere and where plastics do reside, they’re complementary. In addition, we love the decision to move the hybrid battery pack from the trunk to under the rear seats on the hybrid model. That means that every Camry has a capacious trunk to say the very least.

Entertainment & Technology

The addition of Apple CarPlay to the Entune infotainment system is a big deal for many customers. While Toyota has yet to integrate Android Auto, the current Bluetooth connectivity is a decent alternative for now. Both the 7-inch and 8-inch infotainment screens are vibrant, easy to see, and fairly quick. If anything, we’d make the system a bit more simple to use as it’s not the most intuitive.

For example, owners that don’t spend extra on the integrated navigation system will be required to pair their phones via Bluetooth and then use a specific app approved by Toyota. Buyers can opt for a more enhanced version that has more features and information. The 10-inch heads-up display is a great addition that keeps you alert to speed, fuel level, and more.

Safety Features

Obviously, we love SafetySense but there’s more to appreciate about the Camry when it comes to safety. First, the IIHS rated it as a Top Safety Pick+. It also achieved a 5-star crash test rating with the NHTSA. Those features and achievements make the Camry one of the best cars on the market in terms of safety.

Warranties

Toyota also takes the lead when it comes to warranty coverage. Their limited warranty of 3-years or 36,000-miles and their powertrain warranty of 5-years or 60,000-miles are pretty standard. Where they stand out is by providing up to 2 years or 25,000 miles of complimentary service.

What we think

2019 Toyota Camry

2019 Toyota Camry – pressroom.toyota.com |  Shop 2019 Toyota Camry on Carsforsale.com

The Toyota Camry built its foundation on being one of the most well-rounded, reliable, and refined people movers. Today, some 40 years after its genesis, the Camry continues to be highly attractive. It’s comfortable, it’s efficient, and it’s safe. For those that want the reliability and comfort but prefer power, they can still get it with a potent 301-horsepower engine. The Camry really does offer something for almost everyone.
