Mitsubishi has been building the first-generation Eclipse Cross since 2018, slotting it between the smaller Outlander Sport and larger three-row Outlander in the lineup. Clearly not to be confused with the righteous nuclear green Eclipse of Fast & Furious fame, the Cross variant is one of many – very many – small crossovers currently on the market. After a heavy restyling that brought, shall we say, unusual styling in 2022, the latest Eclipse Cross is largely unchanged versus last year’s model aside from the newly standard Rear Seat Alert and a 5-year free trial of My Mitsubishi Connect for LE models and above.
Standard AWD
Strong warranty coverage
Stand-out looks (like them or not)
Smartphone mirroring not standard
Behind the competition in screen sizes
Light on advanced driver aids
Just so-so in a very competitive segment
Mitsubishi fits every 2025 Eclipse Cross with the same 1.5L turbocharged inline-4. It’s rated for 152 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Lashed to a CVT, that the automaker describes as an “8-speed CVT”, it routes power to all four wheels under the Super All-Wheel Control system or S-AWC for short.
Speed comes on leisurely with a reported 8.6-second saunter to 60 from a standstill. As with most crossovers, a MacPherson strut suspension is found up front, but unlike those other SUVs, every Eclipse Cross comes with the more complex – and more expensive – multi-link rear suspension. Don’t expect to best Brian O’Conner’s O.G. Eclipse, but a planted ride should be on hand.
Though Mitsubishi doesn’t pitch the 2025 Eclipse Cross as any sort of off-roader, it does have a fairly high ground clearance of 8.5 inches. The actual off-road-prepped Ford Bronco Sport only offers 7.8” of clearance in base form or 8.8” in the most aggressive spec. Interesting. As for fuel economy, base Eclipse Cross models are rated for 25 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The rest of the lineup comes in at 25, 26, and 25 mpg, respectively.
There are 2 rows of seating with room for up to 5 in the 2025 Eclipse Cross. Those in the back can recline the seats and stretch out with 37” of legroom. Upholstery ranges from black cloth on base models to black or gray leather on the range-topping SEL. The back seat can also be split-folded in a 60-40 configuration to open up 50 cubic feet of cargo space. With that seat raised, there are 23 cubes on hand.
Every Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with automatic climate control with heated front seats showing up on the LE trim line and a power-adjustable driver’s seat for SE models and above. In SEL guise, the Eclipse Cross features a heated steering wheel with the optional Touring package adding heated rear outboard seats and a panoramic moonroof.
Mitsubishi saves Eclipse Cross costs by not fitting the base ES model with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The rest of the lineup features this must-have modern tech as well as an 8” central infotainment touchscreen, a pair of front-row USB ports, and the My Mitsubishi Connect and Remote Services system. Base models make do with a 4-speaker stereo, while the SEL offers an 8-speaker setup.
Forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, and rear seat reminder come fitted to all 2025 Eclipse Cross’s with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert on SE models and above. The NHTSA rates the Mitsubishi 5 stars overall in crash safety, but the IIHS only gives it a Good score for the small front overlap test only. For the moderate front overlap and side protocols, the IIHS rates it Poor.
The entry-level Eclipse Cross ES features 16” alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, and a full complement of exterior LED lighting, including the fog lamps. Cabin amenities include Bluetooth connectivity and cruise control as well as a single USB port and a 7” central touchscreen.
LE models ride on black-finished 18” wheels to go with darkened exterior trim and rain-sensing wipers. Other standard content includes push-button start, heated front seats, automatic high beams, and the larger touchscreen with smartphone mirroring.
The 2025 Eclipse Cross SE is well-equipped with a hands-free liftgate, power-folding side mirrors, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. A panoramic moonroof can be added for $1,500, but a 6-speaker stereo system, navigation, synthetic leather upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control are all standard.
The top-spec SEL comes with a monochromatic exterior finish, a heated steering wheel, leather seating, and a surround-view monitor. For $1,850, the optional Touring package adds black roof rails, heated rear seats, an 8-speaker audio system, a head-up display, and a panoramic moonroof.
The 2025 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross in SE trim is likely the best value of the lineup. For only $1,100 more than an LE, it adds a lot of content like a hands-free liftgate, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, adaptive cruise control, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
However, for similar money, you could get into the Kia Sportage EX with its more powerful engine, 12.3” central touchscreen, and 74 cubic feet of available cargo space. Mitsubishi matches Kia on its 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, but goes further by including 2 years of complimentary maintenance.

Were there no other competition in the compact crossover segment, the 2025 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross would be perfectly OK. Standard AWD is great, the price points are low – especially when paired with the latest new car incentives – and it comes with an excellent warranty. But that’s not reality.
Instead, this is a red-hot segment loaded with other choices like the Kia Seltos, the Honda CR-V, and the Subaru Crosstrek. Most of these are far ahead of Mitsubishi in infotainment, and not making Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard at this point is a glaring miss for the Eclipse Cross. After 7 years on the market, it’s time for an overhaul.
A panoramic sunroof is available on the Eclipse Cross in SE and SEL trim.
Yes, the My Mitsubishi Connect app can start the Eclipse Cross engine remotely.
The 2025 Eclipse Cross starts at $26,545.
