Monterey Car week is one of the most prestigious events on the automotive calendar. It brings together manufacturers from every corner of the globe. It also includes car enthusiasts from every level of society including those who have no problem slapping down seven figures for a sports car. Here’s a quick breakdown of five of the most significant new cars and concept cars that were just unveiled at Monterey Car Week 2023.

Lamborghini Lanzador Reveal

Lamborghini is going all-electric at some point in the future and we’ve just got a look at what it’s using as the inspiration for its very first EV. The Lanzador is what the house of the raging bull calls a “high ground-clearance GT.”

Considering that the batteries will likely sit in the floor of the car it should retain a relatively low center of gravity. Details are relatively sparse in terms of how the final production car will come to market.

What we do know is that the Lanzador will employ a 2+2 layout with all-wheel drive. It’ll also make “more than one megawatt” of power which equates to 1,341 hp. If Lambo has to go electric at least that many ponies should feel comforting under one’s right foot.

Lotus Type 66

Lotus might also be going electric but it’s throwing away convention for the Type 66. It’ll only build ten in total of this ultra-rare track-only toy but it’s selling each one for over $1 million. Designed as a potential entry into the Can-Am racing series in the 1960s, the Type 66 never saw production back then. Now, it will and it’ll feature everything one could want from a period-correct race car.

That includes a V8 engine with 830 hp and a sequential transmission. According to Lotus, the body generates more than 1,764 pounds of downforce at 150 mph. That’s enough to make it competitive with modern-day GT3 cars around some race tracks. Lotus says that in simulations it appears to be even faster than GT3 cars on some circuits.

Ford Mustang GTD

The Ford GT might be leaving production but the blue oval brand has another super high-performance car ready to take over the halo. That car is the Mustang GTD, a $300,000 pony with 800 hp and an unquestionable thirst for track time. Aside from that massively powerful 5.2-liter V8, the GTD comes with a plethora of other racing hardware including an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle and a carbon fiber driveshaft.

The suspension is semi-active and partially inboard. The body and undertray are carbon fiber. There are a number of active aerodynamic surfaces on board and variable traction control helps to keep this horse bridled on the road and on the track.

Rimac Nevera Time Attack

The Nevera is the fastest production car in the world in a handful of different aspects. It’s blindingly quick in a straight line and now it’s set over 20 track lap records over the last few years. Now that it’s also set the record as the fastest production electric vehicle around the famous Nurburgring, with a time of just 7:05, Rimac has launched and sold 12 special Time Attack editions.

Each one features a special livery that nods to one of those recent records. Interestingly, the Time Attack editions won’t have many performance changes to speak of. Instead, they’ll make do with colorways and badging that set them apart. Each of the 12 cars will also get a special “Time Attack X of 12” plaque inside the cabin.

Czinger 21C Blackbird Edition

American company Czinger also launched a new special edition called the Blackbird. Built to pay homage to the famously fast and sleek Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, the 21C Blackbird Edition features Jet Black paint and a handful of special SR-71 nods. That includes Afterburner Orange accent colors in the cabin and Blackbird badging both inside and outside of the car.

The exhaust pipes are even formed in a way to look a little more like the actual afterburners found on the plane. They’re the finishing touches on a wildly powerful hybrid drivetrain that includes a V8 engine and two electric motors for a total of 1,350 hp. Czinger is building 80 examples of this 1+1 supercar and won’t say how many will be of the Blackbird variety.
