The Cars Ending Production this Year

With 2025 in full swing, it’s time for a roll call of vehicles that will no longer be with us. In many cases, the relentless onslaught of EVs and crossovers spelled the end of long-running nameplates. While some were long overdue to get the axe, some, like the Chevy Camaro and its 50-year-plus history will indeed be missed.

Chevy Camaro

Chevrolet put the Camaro to bed once before, in the early aughts, before bringing it back in 2010. But this is the end of the road for the 9th-gen Camaro that arrived in 2016. Shocking as it may seem considering Ford now has the pony car market cornered; sales figures were on a steady decline for the Camaro with about 31,000 sold in 2023 versus nearly 73,000 in 2016. As a sendoff, Chevy offered a Collector’s Edition package with Panther Black metallic paint, black stripes, and 20” black wheels. The bowtie brand has said the Camaro will likely return, but cool Camaro features like a 6-speed manual and fire-breathing 6.2L V8 are unlikely to see future production.

Ford Edge

The Ford Edge has been on sale since 2007 across two generations with the second one landing in 2015. But since 2019, there have been few meaningful updates and the Edge has struggled to keep up in the red-hot mid-size crossover space. As well, its price point overlaps with the larger Explorer and in a lineup with seven SUVs, something had to give. Considering the recent overhaul of the Lincoln Nautilus, perhaps the Edge could see a return on a shared platform down the road. In the meantime, don’t miss the performance-oriented 2024 Edge ST with its 2.7L twin-turbo V6 making 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque before it’s too late.

Mitsubishi Mirage

The Mitsubishi Mirage came standard with 14” steel wheels giving it gawky lines. The 1.2L three-pot under the hood wheezed out 78 hp. BUT! It was good for 39 mpg combined, came with a Kia-matching powertrain warranty, and only cost $18,000 to start. Easy to poke fun at, the Mirage was nonetheless part of a nearly extinct car breed – affordable basic transportation. With its departure, only the Nissan Versa offers a sub-$20,000 price point. In fairness, the little Mitsubishi was on sale since 2014 and long past its expiration date. However, a lack of large-scale interest in sedans and hatchbacks along with the Japanese automaker’s focus on EVs put the final nail in the Mirage’s coffin.

Nissan Titan

Nissan has been valiantly attempting to compete with the Big Three and its pickup truck dominance since 2003. But brand loyalty has resulted in a Sisyphean situation. That may seem harsh, but considering Nissan only moved 13,351 units of the 2024 Titan and Ford moved more than 830,000, it’s not gone well. The second-gen Titan went on sale in 2016 and brought a potent V8 that ultimately made 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. Nissan attempted to build a heavy-duty variant with the Titan XD, but it was half-baked. There are no Titan replacement plans, which is understandable given the new mid-size Frontier has been far more successful, and as with so many other automakers, Nissan has shifted its focus to EVs.

Kia Forte

The Kia Forte is gone in name only as the compact car receives new life under the K4 moniker. With a history stretching back to 2010, the final Forte generation has been on sale since 2019. Being a Kia, it was a value leader and offered up to 34 mpg combined. A highlight was the Forte GT Manual model. Blending a 1.6L turbocharged inline-4 making 200 hp, a 6-speed manual, summer tires, and a sport-tuned suspension, this was a rare small modern car for enthusiasts. By most measures, the new K4 is a better car that aligns more closely with the mid-size K5 and features loads of modern technology. The manual transmission, however, is now a thing of the past.

Infiniti Q50

The Infiniti Q50 was something of an old codger in the luxury sport sedan market. On sale since 2014 with only occasional updates, it ultimately couldn’t keep up with younger, fresher options from the likes of BMW and Cadillac. And with sales of just 4,148 in 2024 – representing about 10% of the number sold in 2016 – there’s not much of a business case. Meaning, Infiniti will be yet another automaker selling nothing but crossovers. Very exciting. Fortunately, Q50 inventory is still kicking around and although it’s being canned, that doesn’t take away from how good this sedan still looks today. In Red Sport 400 guise with a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 making 400 horsepower, there’s one last gasp of fun to be had in the Infiniti lineup.

Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar is on the ropes. In its move to join the lemmings, I mean follow a carefully considered strategy of building only EVs, Jaguar is about to be a carmaker with no cars. For 2025, it won’t have any vehicles to sell in its home UK market. The F-Pace will linger on, but not for long, and the F-Type is officially toast. Much of Jag’s modern lineup is forgettable, but the F-Type roadster will be missed. Sold in hardtop or convertible guise, it has been on sale since 2014. Oldness, combined with dwindling interest in sports cars, helped push the F-Type out the door. That said, its slinky lines will never go out of style and the standard 5.0L supercharged V8 for the last year of production is sure to be sought after long after the F-Type takes the long dirt cat nap.

Nissan GT-R

Turns out, Godzilla can be killed. Which is a shame as Nissan’s GT-R continued to shock and awe audiences a whopping 15 years after the R35 generation debuted. Mainly due to its 3.8L twin-turbo V6 that made as much as 600 hp in NISMO spec and an AWD system known for delivering physics-defying feats of handling.

But as with the F-Type, high-powered sports cars are out of vogue, and in the case of the GT-R, it’s gotten pretty pricey. Back in the day, Nissan sold the GT-R for less than $80,000. Today, the base model starts north of $120,000 and the range-topping NISMO is well over $200,000. If Nissan’s Hyper Force concept car is any indication, we may see the GT-R return, but mostly likely as an EV.

Ram 1500 Classic

While Nissan struggled to sell Titans, Ram was busy selling its old 1500 as a new one under the Classic moniker. This came about when the latest Ram 1500 debuted in 2019. Simultaneously, Ram offered the prior DS generation, which dates back to 2008, as the 1500 Classic. Positioned as a value play, it only came in Tradesman or Warlock trim. When the new 1500 introduced a Tradesman model in 2024, the old truck finally became redundant. Plus, it was only a few hundred dollars cheaper and wildly outdated by modern pickup truck standards. With the departure of the Classic, buyers of the Ram 1500 can no longer access a regular cab or a V8 powertrain.

Toyota Venza

Toyota built the first-gen Venza from 2009 to 2015, then brought it back for a second shot in 2021. Based on the RAV4 platform, however, it struggled to differentiate itself from Toyota’s vast crossover pack on size. A hybrid only, the Venza also exuded a strong Lexus vibe with features like a “Star Gaze” electrochromic glass roof and elegant lines. All of which made it something of an odd duck in the mainstream Toyota lineup. There’s nothing wrong with the outgoing Venza and it delivered 39 mpg combined, but the fresher Crown Signia has taken its place with hopes of selling more effectively than the unpopular final generation Venza.

Niel Stender grew up doing replacement work on his 1990 Cherokee and 1989 Starion, so it’s not surprising that he would put his mechanical engineering degree from the University of New Hampshire to use in the car world as a vehicle dynamics engineer. Now engineering sentence structures, his writing infuses his auto experience with his time in marketing and his sales experience. Writing about cars for close to a decade now, he focuses on some of the more technical mechanical systems that are found under the hood and throughout a vehicle.
