2023 Chevrolet Corvette Powertrain

Most Corvettes come with a naturally aspirated tried and true 6.2-liter V8 that sits right behind the passengers. It develops 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. That power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. No manual option is offered.

Buyers can select the Z51 package which adds 5 hp along with an electronic limited-slip differential, better brakes, summer tires, and a dual-mode performance exhaust.

To put it lightly, it’s unquestionably the best performance car for the money on sale right now. It’s so much sharper and faster than anything else in its class. Not even the new Mustang will hold a candle to it. Feedback through the controls is fabulous and what’s more impressive is that while the Corvette can carve canyons better than most, it’s also just as capable of being a daily driver that won’t punish you for using it.

Then of course, there’s the all-new Z06. It gets a bespoke 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 that spins up to 8,500 RPM and develops 670 horsepower. Priced at above $105,000 it’s still an incredible bargain for the cash but Porsche’s 911 might be just as good of a buy. Nevertheless, the Z06 is undoubtedly the most capable sports car that America has ever made for this sort of money.

2023 Chevrolet Corvette Fuel Economy & MPG

While this might be a strong performer on the track, that ability comes at the cost of fuel economy. According to the EPA, the Vette will get 16 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. Frankly, that’s not all that terrible for a car that can do what this one can.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space

Much like its exterior, the interior of the Corvette is polarizing. There might not be a more driver-focused cockpit on the market for this kind of cash. The driver is surrounded by the interior including design features in the center console, the infotainment screen, and the dash aim all of the major functions at the pilot. Chevrolet has also seen to it that this sports car is well-appointed with higher quality materials and better switchgear than in most other GM products.

The seats are highly configurable and very comfortable without being overly harsh or tight. Visibility is better than one might expect from a car of this nature and we really like the optional heads-up display too.

Chevrolet’s Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 suspension soaks up bumps so well that it would be easy to use this car year round so long as the weather cooperates. On top of that, there’s cargo space in both the front trunk and the rear hatch compartment. It’s almost a practical car in that sense.

Entertainment & Technology

Chevys latest infotainment software is featured in the Corvette’s 8-inch touchscreen. It’s fast and easy to navigate. It also pumps sound to either a standard 10-speaker system or an upgraded 14-speaker system. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity along with a Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard features as well.

Buyers of the 2LT trim will also get a front-view parking camera, a digital rearview mirror, and a performance data recorder. Those who want it can opt for a front axle lifting system.

Safety Features

Chevrolet doesn’t offer much in the way of advanced safety equipment for the Corvette. The base 1LT only gets parking sensors and little else to keep it from being involved in an accident. The 2LT adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Those who want more advanced features like adaptive cruise or lane-centering assist can’t get it. Additionally, as of this writing, neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has yet to release safety data on the Corvette.

3LT – $77,845

The top normal Corvette trim adds GT2 sport seats, leather-wrapped interior panels, a microfiber headliner, and premium leather upholstery. In addition, a 70th Anniversary package can be added to the Corvette 3LT for $5,995. It includes Midnight Gray forged aluminum wheels, red-painted calipers, a 2-piece set of leather travel bags, special badging, and more.

Z06 – $105,300

The actual king of the Corvette castle comes with all of the bells and whistles from the 3LT but also adds the 5.5-liter engine, staggered 20-inch wheels up front with 21-inch wheels at the back, bigger brakes, and stickier tires. Those who want to get even more extreme can opt for the Z07 package with additional aero bits, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and carbon fiber wheels.

Warranties

Every Corvette comes with a three-year or 36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Chevrolet will also cover the first maintenance visit. That’s pretty standard for everyday cars but somewhat rare on something so high-strung.

What we think

2023 Corvette Z06 - media.chevrolet.com

Since the original Corvette, this sports car has been known for its excellent value and performance. Not every generation has been a smash hit but we think that this one will be tougher to beat than any of the others. It’s simply too good at achieving its objectives
