After kicking off generation three last year, the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse arrives with a bit of trim shuffling. LT models replace the LS variant from the 2024 Traverse as the base setup and a new High Country joins the lineup with a healthy dose of luxury amenities. Chevy makes all Trailering Package content lineup standard, but otherwise, this cavernous three-row midsize crossover carries on unchanged.
Brawny good looks
Loaded with standard features
That 17.7” central touchscreen
Would benefit from a hybrid setup
8-passenger setup on LT only
Average warranty coverage
A compelling Chevy crossover
Every 2025 Chevy Traverse comes with the same turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder good for 328 hp and 326 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with an 8-speed automatic to spin the front wheels with AWD a $2,000 option on all models except the Z71 where it is standard.
Fuel economy comes in at 23 mpg combined for the FWD Traverse and 21 with AWD running gear. That’s okay, but considering Toyota’s Highlander – which we compare to the Traverse here – offers a hybrid powertrain capable of 36 mpg combined, it’s easy to see why a hybrid-powered Traverse would be a nice offering from Chevy.
Across the board, the latest Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds and for 2025, the previously optional Trailering Package becomes standard. That means all models come with heavy-duty cooling, a trailer hitch, a 220-amp alternator, and Hitch Guidance with Hitch View technology.
Three-row crossovers are kind of the thing right now and Chevy seems to have nailed the spaciousness aspect of this style with the 2025 Traverse. Third-row occupants are treated to 32” of legroom with 41” on hand for the second row. However, if you want a second-row bench to accommodate up to 8 people, only the base LT offers this. Otherwise, it’s captain’s chairs and room for 7.
Regardless, with both back rows folded down, maximum cargo space measures 98 cubic feet. That is unsurprisingly identical to what the GMC Acadia can handle, but quite a bit more than the 84 cubic feet the Toyota Highlander manages. Creature comforts range from standard triple-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats to available leather upholstery with front-row ventilation and a panoramic moonroof.
A 17.7” infotainment touchscreen flowing across from an all-digital instrument panel is standard fare on the 2025 Traverse. As is Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and four USB ports. It’s quite the impressive roster of included tech with higher-level models offering a 10-speaker Bose audio system and a surround-view monitor.
The IIHS has yet to test the third-gen Traverse, but the NHTSA gives it a 5-star overall rating. Like the standard tech, Chevy loads the 2025 Traverse with standard driver aids including forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping system, and adaptive cruise control. Semi-autonomous Super Cruise tech is available.
The base Traverse LT comes with 18” wheels, LED headlights, and a hands-free liftgate. Interior niceties include heat for the cloth front seats and steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. Along with a wireless phone charging pad, the LT features a 6-speaker stereo and OnStar connectivity.
In Z71 guise, the 2025 Traverse is fitted with a special twin-clutch AWD system and Terrain mode. Aimed at the adventurous crowd, the Z71 rides on an off-road tuned suspension with a 1” lift and all-terrain tires. A front skid plate and red tow hooks round out the rough road vibe with Hill Descent Control on hand as well.
New for 2025, the High Country designation brings 22” wheels, a heated wiper park, leather upholstery with bronze accents, and climatized front seats. These luxurious Traverses also boast a digital rearview mirror, Super Cruise and self-parking, a power-folding third-row seat, and heated second-row outboard positions.
The Sporty Spice of the Traverse lineup, RS models are also the priciest. Standard touches include gloss black 22s and matching exterior trim. A panoramic moonroof is part of the package as is a flat-bottom steering wheel, black leather with Torch Red highlights, and a surround-view monitor.
Overall, the 2025 Traverse LT is the best place to start. It’s $7,000 cheaper than the Z71 and is the only Traverse to come standard with 18” wheels, which tend to have better ride quality than 22s and are definitely cheaper to replace. Plus, this base model is very nicely equipped.
It does cost some $4,000 more than the popular Kia Telluride LX for 2025, but that three-row SUV doesn’t quite match the Traverse in a base model comparison. Of course, Kia’s 10-year powertrain warranty embarrasses Chevy’s weak sauce 5-year coverage, but the Traverse does come with the first service on the house.

With its roughly $41,000 starting price, the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse is quite the value given how much content is stuffed into the base setup. Techies will love the gigantic screen stretching across the dash and everyone will appreciate heated front seats.
As for the powertrain, it’s impressive on paper as Chevy has managed to drop 2 cylinders versus the previous generation while increasing power and improving fuel economy – marginally. Really, that last note is the biggest bugaboo on the new Traverse. If Toyota can sell a three-row crossover capable of 36 mpg, why can’t Chevy?
