How did a simple street racing movie about an undercover agent turn into a 9-movie franchise about saving the world featuring cars taking on planes, trains, and tanks? No idea, but I keep coming back for more since fast cars are still the stars of the show. The latest installment to the Fast and Furious franchise has released its final trailer and given us a release date of June 25th after having been pushed back since last year.
So far, we know Dom has the whole family back together and have to take on Cipher who’s teamed up with Jakob Toretto, Dom’s brother. Why have we never heard of his brother? What are Jakob and Cipher after? There were some scenes showing rockets strapped to a Pontiac Fiero, so are we going to see Fast and Furious end up in space this time? Plus, Han is back?! There’s a lot to take in from the F9 trailers, and it’s making me want to rewatch the previous films. Thankfully, Universal has got us all covered with the introduction of Fast Fridays, but we’ll get more into that later. First, we need to look at who’s all back, what cars we get to see in action, and point out some awesome scenes we’ve caught glimpses of already for Fast and Furious 9.
Bringing the Family Together – Even Han?
For the Fast and Furious 9 trailer, we see the whole family having a cookout at the original Fast and Furious house and it’s a nice moment that I can’t wait to see on screen. There’s of course Dom and Letty with Mia, Tej, Roman, Ramsey, Sean, Earl, and Twinkie all having a good time relaxing for once. From there the group can be seen in action packed chase scenes with motocross bikes, dune buggy things, giant tankers, muscle cars, and some kind of magnet plane?
Then we’re reintroduced to a Fast and Furious family member we never thought we’d see again since he was last seen upside down in a flaming Mazda RX-7. Han, personally my favorite character, is back in the current timeline and not just existing in prequel sequences. It does bring up a lot of questions as to where he’s been, how he survived, and why he didn’t tell anyone he was alive this whole time. I guess it could just be that “movie magic” where you’re just supposed to be excited and accept the fact that the character is back, no questions asked.
Fast and Furious 9 Cars We’ve Seen
Fast and Furious is known for having one crucial part in all of the movies, fast cars and car stunts. The action sequences have become a little more CGI rather than using practical effects as the situations have grown more outlandish, but it’s still cool to watch them play out on screen. Here’s some notable cars we’ve seen so far.
Ford Mustang GT350 vs Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody
There’s an explosive chase scene for a bit of the trailer that has Dom racing a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody after Jakob in a Ford Mustang GT350. It ends with the Mustang jumping off a cliff and sticking to a plane and then the Charger somehow gets a broken bridge’s rope caught in its wheels to Tarzan swing across a ravine.
Dom’s 1970 Dodge Charger R/T
The 900 horsepower ¼ mile drag car has been a staple for the Fast and Furious franchise and can be seen sitting in a garage with Dom briefly. The Charger has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times since it holds a special place with Dom as his father’s car. Being that the main villain is his own brother, we have to wonder if this high-performance muscle car will hold some significance in the film.
1968 Dodge Charger 500
We see a couple glimpses of this retro beast as it speeds through streets chasing an armored truck convoy and fires off some magnet technology built into the back of it. The Dodge Charger 500 was a homologation special that was made for NASCAR races and originally came with a 426 HEMI V8 engine. We can only guess what’s actually inside this car now, especially with all the rocket and magnet things happening.
2020 Toyota Supra
We find Han drifting corners in a wide-bodied Toyota Supra that’s sporting a similar black and orange paintjob to the one he had in Tokyo Drift. Needless to say, this thing is sick. It’s also seen stopping an armored truck thing by sticking itself in front of it? Bold move, but I’m sure this isn’t a normal Supra under the skin.
Noble M600
We also get a glimpse of Helen Mirren making an appearance as Magdalene Shaw behind the wheel of a sleek purple Noble M600 as she speeds through the streets with Dom in the passenger seat. Not sure what part she plays in the story of this movie, but it’s fun to see her ask him to pull the E-brake as she whips around and puts it in reverse for a corner.
Pontiac Fiero With Rockets
The Fiero was an affordable mid-engine sports car back in the day from Pontiac, and the Fast and Furious franchise felt it was fit to have a rocket attached to it. The red Fiero had a roll cage added, armor plating bolted on, front bumper exhaust porting installed, and a giant jet engine strapped to the top of it, but it’s still rocking those ‘80s stock wheels. It also is seen with the wheels removed in favor of some additional side booster rockets? Roman and Tej are seen in spacesuits too, so who knows if the space idea everyone keeps joking about really is the franchise’s last frontier.
Catch Up with the Fast and Furious During Fast Fridays

Since April 30th, every Friday at select theaters is Fast Friday. Universal is inviting fans out to the movies to watch the Fast and Furious movies for FREE! You’re getting the chance to relive each movie featured on the big screen and all you have to worry about paying for is popcorn and a drink! Unfortunately, if you’re a Hobbs and Shaw fan, that one won’t be making the cut since it’s a spin off. By the end of these Fast Fridays, we’ll all be caught up and ready to ride on June 25th when Fast and Furious 9 finally hits theaters!
