2021 Jeep Compass Powertrain

2021 Jeep Compass - media.stellantisnorthamerica.com

Standard on the 2021 Jeep Compass is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, although it isn’t the lowest-performing engine in its class, it is far from the top and leaves a lot to be desired. All trim packages, except the Trailhawk, come with front-wheel-drive (FWD), while all-wheel-drive (AWD) is optional. The Trailhawk comes standard with an all-wheel-drive system.

Trim packages with front-wheel drive employ a 6-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel-drive options use a 9-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, all models come with an engine stop/restart feature to save fuel while idling.

The Trailhawk is equipped with additional features such as protective skid plates, Crawl mode – which holds the transmission in first gear, a full-sized spare tire, and Active Drive Low with a 20:1 crawl ratio.

2021 Jeep Compass Fuel Economy & MPG

The fuel economy in the 2021 Jeep Compass varies based on the drivetrain. In FWD models, they get an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Four-wheel-drive models produce almost identical numbers, with 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space

Four adults can easily fit in the 2021 Jeep Compass with its comfortable seats. Passengers seated in the front row have 39.2 inches of headroom, while rear-seated passengers have an impressive 38.5 inches of headroom.

Physical controls are set in logical locations, which facilitate easy access. Unfortunately, the cabin materials are basic and aren’t nearly as high quality as they could be. However, buyers can upgrade to more luxurious cabin materials such as leather upholstery. When the rear seat is in use, there are 27 cubic feet of cargo space, but can expand to just short of 60 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Additional features to spice up the Compass include a panoramic sunroof and remote start capabilities.

Entertainment & Technology

Standard on the 2021 Jeep Compass is a Uconnect infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen, voice recognition, six speakers, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and two USB ports. The infotainment system is user-friendly and features logically-arranged menus. Additionally, the interface is crisp, clear, and responsive, further lending to the useability of the system. An 8.4-inch touchscreen is available on specific models, as is navigation, an HD radio, and a nine-speaker Alpine audio system.

Safety Features

NHTSA gave the 2021 Jeep Compass a four-star overall safety rating. The IIHS says the Compass is “Good” in crash protection, but “Marginal” and “Poor” for headlights. The 2021 Limited and Trailhawk trim packages have gained standard safety features, including driver-assist.

Other active safety features include lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic windshield wipers.

The diverse trim packages found with the Compass provide ample choices to meet the needs of various individuals, some of which include high-tech options to keep drivers safe. Overall, the 2021 Jeep Compass is a formidable choice for consumers. However, it falls short when it comes to engine power versus its hefty curb weight.
