What’s New for the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado?
There are no major changes to the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado lineup, but a new, dealer-installed Trail Boss package is now available on LT and Z71 models. The front air dam is deleted, a 1” lift is added to the front suspension, and skid plates are bolted on up front and midway along the undercarriage. Cosmetic enhancements include gloss black 17” wheels, black exterior badging, and red recovery hooks. This new package offers an extra boost of off-road ability, though the ZR2 and its available Bison package continue to be the Colorado of choice for buyers in need of serious 4×4 capability.

2022 Chevrolet Colorado Powertrain
There is a trio of body styles available on the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado. Extended cab with a 6’ bed or a pair of four-door Crew cabs, one with a 5’ bed and the other with a 6′ version. Engine availability depends on trim level, but the entry point is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four that makes 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque that’s run to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. Towing & Payload
All 2020 Chevrolet Colorados come with trailer sway control and the V6 transmission has a tow/haul mode, but you’ll need a package or stand-alone options to access the integrated trailer brake controller, 2” receiver, and Hitch Guidance tech. The built-in rear bumper CornerStep makes loading simpler as does Chevy’s EZ-Lift tailgate, with its internal torsion bar. The max towing figure of 7,700 pounds comes with the Extended cab body paired with the Duramax diesel. The gas-powered four-cylinder engine is standard with the option to fit the V6, 4WD, and the various cab configurations, but the Duramax is not available on WT trim.
Vinyl seating trim isn’t exactly fancy, but it is durable and conveniences like power locks and windows are included. As well, the driver’s seat is power adjustable, carpeted floors are standard, as is air conditioning. Chevy’s Infotainment System 3 is managed via a 7” touchscreen display and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring tech. There is a single front USB port and six-speaker stereo on hand as well as a backup camera and Tire Fill Alert.
LT – $29,290
LT models offer access to the diesel motor for a roughly $7,000 premium over the standard four-cylinder in crew cab setup. The EZ Lift tailgate feature is added with remote locking along with keyless entry, power-adjustable side mirrors, and alloy wheels. Interior conveniences include an auto-dimming rearview mirror and automatic climate controls when the Luxury package is selected. Ready to tackle the outdoors, The Chevrolet Colorado’s ZR2 trim sports driver-selectable locking differentials on both axles, off-road rocker protection, and trim-exclusive wheels mounted in Goodyear DuraTrac tires. The truck is wider and taller than its stable mates and features exotic spool-valve dampers from Multimatic. A power-adjustable passenger seat, leather upholstery, and remote start are all part of the deal, but the most exciting option is the $5750 Bison package. It transforms the already capable ZR2 into an off-road brute with five boron steel skid plates, bigger fender flares, unique bumpers, and more; all of which is developed in cooperation with American Expedition Vehicles.

With a configuration for anyone, the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado is still a solid mid-size truck deep into its 2nd generation. The ZR2 Bison and the addition of the Trail Boss package make this model an exciting option for the adventurers out there. Overall, the Colorado will happily handle standard utility tasks with the option to tack on a bit of fancy, but nothing lavish. And that’s fine, it is a pickup truck after all.
