The Latest and Greatest

If you’re wondering when 2025 model year cars are set to arrive on dealer lots, you’re not alone. A few models have already arrived. The Honda Pilot, BMW X5, RAM 1500, Toyota Camry, and Chevrolet Trax are all on sale today. Most 2025 models, however, are yet to be released. The exact timing of releases in the auto industry is often vague, given the contingent nature of automotive manufacturing. There’s many a slip between a cup and a lip, so the saying goes and carmakers often hedge their bets until the last minute. As you’ll see below, that means seasonal release estimates abound, while specific months, let alone specific dates, are hard to come by (we did run across a few, however).

Even so, there’s a lot of exciting new 2025 vehicles and significant updates arriving this year.

Cadillac

GM has made a big deal of their push to electrify their fleet and the Cadillac brand has been front and center on that effort with EVs like the Lyriq, Celestiq, and upcoming Vistiq. Rather than squander the brand recognition of their signature SUV with a new name, Cadillac has chosen to give the Escalade a stand-alone IQ suffix along with its new all-electric powertrain. The Escalade IQ will offer up to 750 horsepower, 450 miles of range, and a dash-spanning 55-inch digital display. Rounding out the IQ range for 2025 will be the new Optiq. Built from the same platform as the Equinox EV, we expect the Optiq to offer between 200 and 300 horsepower, depending on configuration, and around 300 miles of range. Both the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Optiq are expected to go on sale in late 2024.

Jeep

Jeep has seen remarkable success with their 4xe, the plug-in hybrid version of the ever-popular Wrangler. Jeep has said they intend to expand the 4xe powertrain to the Gladiator next year. In the meantime, we’ll see the first all-electric Jeep, the Recon, arrive sometime this year. Details are still scarce, but the Recon will be built on the same large EV platform as the upcoming Wrangler S and Dodge Charger EV (details below). So basically, the sky is the limit on actual horsepower. Expect the Jeep Recon to go on sale in late 2024.

Dodge

Speaking of Dodge, the keepers of the muscle car flame intend to keep internal combustion for 2025, even as they push the brand into the uncharted waters of electrification (uncharted for Dodge at least). The Dodge Charger, reimagined for 2024, ditched the Hemi V8 for a twin-turbo straight-six with either 420 or 550 horsepower, depending on configuration. The fully electric Dodge Charger Daytona adds a four-door version for the 2025 model year alongside the existing coupe. Max output for the Charger Daytona Scat Pack? 670 horsepower; enough to make any muscle car maven blush. Dodge has been a little late in getting the new Charger to market as 2024 models are entering production in the middle of the year. 2025 models, including the new four-door Charger Daytona, are targeted for a belated 2025 release date. Volvo

2024 Volvo EX90 Electric - volvocars.com

Polestar, once Volvo’s electric vehicle division, has been spun off on its own by parent company Geely, leaving Volvo to forge anew its approach to EVs. New for the 2025 model year are both the top and bottom of Volvo’s EV lineup. The EX90 is Volvo’s new flagship EV model, the electric equivalent of the brand XC90 SUV. The EX90 will offer 402 horsepower standard or 510 horsepower for the Performance version. Range is targeted for 360 miles on a single charge. Volvo is putting a major emphasis on safety with the EX90, employing lidar, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to produce what they’re calling their safest vehicle ever

On the opposite end of Volvo’s EV lineup will be the new 2025 EX30. This compact electric crossover will come in single motor (268 horsepower) or dual-motor (422 horsepower) configurations, the latter rocketing from zero to sixty in just 3.4 seconds. Range is estimated at 275 miles, or 265 miles when equipped with all-wheel drive. The EX30’s interior delivers the Scandinavian austerity you’ve come to expect from Volvo, utilizing a single dash-mounted touchscreen for nearly all the vehicle’s controls (for good and ill) and eco-friendly materials like recycled denim and polyester for the upholstery. Both the Volvo EX90 and EX30 are expected to hit dealerships sometime this summer.

Toyota

As we noted above, Toyota already has one of its 2025 models on lots, the completely revamped Camry. The 2025 Camry’s redesign begins with a now hybrid-only powertrain boasting optional all-wheel drive and up to 51 mpg in fuel economy. The all-new Camry has a starting price of $28,400 to go with its spiffy new looks.

The redesigns continue with the 2025 model year 4Runner. With over a decade since its last generational turnover, the 4Runner was more than due for a makeover and boy did it get one. In addition, to a rugged new exterior design, the 4Runner has two new powertrains, a turbocharged four-cylinder making 278 horsepower or a new hybrid version with 326 horsepower. The redesigned 4Runner looks poised to reclaim its top spot among off-roading mid-size SUVs and should be available this fall.

Also new for the 2025 model year, Toyota will be introducing a crossover version of their Crown hybrid sedan. The new Crown Sigma will offer standard AWD, 243 horsepower, and up to 36 mpg. Expect it at dealers this summer.

Subaru

Subaru’s 2025 is something of a transition year. The ever-beloved Outback wagon will be concluding its sixth generation while the Forester crossover embarks on its sixth. The next-gen Forester features a subtle yet thorough exterior redesign. The Forester’s chassis has been stiffened for more compliant handling and a smoother ride. The now aging 2.5L boxer four remains the same, but peak torque has been moved down the power band for better responsiveness. Even the interior has gotten an overhaul, adding to the already spaciousness of the cabin for better passenger and cargo room. Despite these updates, Forester fans will have to wait another year before the introduction of a long-awaited hybrid powertrain and an off-road Wilderness version for 2026.

Hyundai

Hyundai added one of this year’s hottest EVs to their lineup this March with the introduction of the new Ioniq 5 N, the Ioniq 5’s performance model. The Ioniq 5 N offers a dizzying 601 horsepower standard, with the option for brief bursts of up to 641 horsepower. The Ioniq 5 N is the hottest of electric hot hatches, just by the numbers. But Hyundai wasn’t satisfied with raw power, they included a symphony of burbles, roars, and guttural growls to the Ioniq 5 N’s sound system along with simulated gears for a performance EV experience that perfectly replicates the internal combustion experience. While ostensibly out for delivery, the Ioniq 5 N is currently as rare as hen’s teeth, so it may take a while before you see one in the wild. In the meantime, Hyundai will be releasing another new EV, the Ioniq 9, their analogue to the Kia EV9. Little information has yet been released, but given its mechanical similarity, expect the Ioniq 9 to offer similar stats to the EV9: around 300 miles of range and between 215 horsepower on the low end to over 500 horsepower for a performance version (Kia is debuting the EV9 GT model for 2025).

Kia

2024 Kia Carnival MPV - kia.com

The biggest updates for Kia for the 2025 model year see their excellent Carnival minivan go hybrid and the longstanding Forte get a major redesign, including a new name. The new 2025 Carnival MVP will sport a 1.6L four-cylinder in tandem with a 72-horsepower electric motor for 242 horsepower (mpg numbers have not yet been announced). The new Carnival MVP will offer a hybrid-exclusive, a new collection of handling and suspension upgrades dubbed E-Handling, E-Ride, and E-Evasive Handling Assist, respectively.

The new 2025 Kia K4 replaces the outgoing Forte with new looks that closely align with those of the hot K5 mid-size sedan. The K4 will offer the same base four-cylinder (147 horsepower) along with a turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 horsepower. A revised interior in the K4 wisely sports real buttons(!). The new 2025 Kia K4 is set to arrive at dealers in the second half of 2024 while the Carnival MVP should hit lots this summer.

Mercedes-Benz

As with many of the abovementioned brands, Mercedes-Benz’s biggest addition for the 2025 model year is the new all-electric variant of their classic G-Wagon. The G580 With EQ Technology (those Germans sure know how to coin a pithy car name, eh?) will offer an electric motor on each of its four wheels totaling up to 579 horsepower and 859 lb.-ft. of torque. All that low end power along with a solid rear axle and improved approach and departure angles ensure the electric G-Wagon is still an off-road monster. Add in blistering straight-line speed and uber-luxury, and you’ll see why Mercedes-Benz prices the new G580 at roughly $170,000. We should see the new all-electric G-Wagon in late 2024 or early 2025.

Porsche

The Macan, Porsche’s smaller SUV, is getting an EV version this year. The 2024 Macan EV will offer up to 630 horsepower in its dual-motor AWD Turbo iteration. The Macan EV will offer a range of 300 miles and charging from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes. The 2024 Macan EV will go on sale in the second half of 2024.

Porsche too has some major EV updates for the 2025 model year. The 2025 Taycan, their flagship electric-sedan, has gotten a thoroughgoing mid-cycle refresh that includes new front facia, longer range (now up to 325 miles), and faster charging times (from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes). Power ranges from 402 on the low end to an absurd 1,019 horsepower in the Turbo GT in launch control mode. More precise handling is also in the offing, thanks to a revised Active-Ride suspension.

Mazda

2025 Mazda CX-70 - mazdausa.com

Mazda is following up last year’s three-row CX-90 SUV with a new two-row version, the CX-70. The 2025 CX-70 will offer two distinct powertrains, a turbocharged 3.3L straight-six with 280 to 340 horsepower or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version that pairs a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for 325 horsepower. Based on the CX-90 version, the CX-70 PHEV should come with about 26 miles of electric-only range and around 25 mpg combined. The new 2025 CX-70 is set to arrive at dealerships this Spring.
