What’s New for the 2022 Nissan Rogue?
Nissan delivers extra ability in the latest Nissan Rogue with a revamped powertrain. It’s not just a new, more powerful engine that’s included in the update. Also included in a new 2022 Nissan Rogue is a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which has a wider gear ratio, contributing to improved fuel efficiency. After the 2021 Nissan Rogue kicked off the third generation of this popular SUV with an improved on-road demeanor, the Nissan Rogue is now capable in all areas. There are still a few things to be desired, but they are few and far between. In a competitive market that includes the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Chevrolet Equinox, the Rogue continues to bring so much to the table. We’re about to break down the highlights, the trims, the pricing, and other important specs.

2022 Nissan Rogue Powertrain
There’s only one engine and transmission in the 2022 Nissan Rogue, but it is much improved. A 1.5-liter VC-Turbo three-cylinder engine puts out 201 horsepower with 225 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired to a CVT that Nissan dubs an Xtronic transmission. The addition of the Xtronic transmission to the 2022 Rogue uses a 17% wider gear ratio with 32% lower friction than the previous transmission to achieve better acceleration and fuel economy. The VC-Turbo is a three-cylinder version of the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder that first appeared in the 2019 Infiniti QX50 and the 2019 Nissan Altima. It continuously adjusts high and low compression ratios to create a dynamic driving performance and an efficient one. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, but all-wheel drive is available on all trims for an additional $1,500.
The new powertrain works well. It’s smooth and powers up to highway speeds steadily, unless the Rogue is under hard acceleration. In our review of the 2021 Nissan Rogue, we mentioned that the Rogue, “isn’t exactly going to pin you to your seat in acceleration.” That’s still true of the 2022 model, but crossing over the 200-horsepower mark makes for a better drive. Nissan offers comfort and composure with the 2022 Nissan Rogue. Bumps, or holes, on the road aren’t problematic. Taking corners isn’t an issue. Without getting radical, the 2022 Nissan Rogue provides quality suspension, added power, a satisfactory CVT, and controlled handling.
2022 Nissan Rogue Fuel Economy & MPG
Anyone looking for fuel efficiency out of a compact crossover with a combustion engine should be strongly considering the 2022 Nissan Rogue. It leads in fuel economy for a non-hybrid in its class. The Rogue S and SV received an EPA-estimated 30 miles per gallon (MPG) in the city and 37 MPG on the highway with FWD. When equipped with AWD, the Rogue S and SV lower to 28 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway. Moving up to the Nissan Roge SL and Platinum, MPG comes in at 29 in the city and 36 on the highway with FWD. The available AWD lowers it to 28 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway. Still, even with the lowered AWD numbers, the Nissan Rogue is atop the mountain when it comes to fuel efficiency.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space
Still fresh from the complete makeover in the 2021 model, the 2022 Rogue kept the instantly popular Nissan Zero Gravity seats. The NASA-inspired seats offer spinal support and can be heated. They favorite feature was designed to keep the driver and passengers at the ideal, ‘weightless’ posture, making long drives more pleasant. There’s something to that science because the seats are very comfortable. Higher-end trims have semi-aniline interior leather with a quilted diamond-pattern stitched into the seat. Lower trims have cloth seat trim, leather-appointed seats, or leatherette seats.
As with any compact, space is at a minimum, but there is adequate head room and legroom for five adults. 41.5 inches of space is saved for legroom in front. The second-row passengers get 38.5 inches of legroom to stretch out.
Storage is plentiful in the 2022 Nissan Rogue. The center console opens in a butterfly style. Each of the door pockets can hold a 32-ounce bottle. There is also an open cubby for miscellaneous items underneath the shifter. The cargo area holds up to 31.6 cu-ft behind the second row. In the Nissan Rogue SL and Platinum trims, there is 36.5 cu-ft of space. In all trims, there is 74.1 cu-ft of space when the rear seats are folded in a 60/40 split.
Entertainment & Technology
Every 2022 Nissan Rogue is equipped with satellite radio, Bluetooth, two USB ports, Android Auto, and a four-speaker stereo. Drivers have easy access to a an eight-inch touchscreen. Higher trims get nine inches on their center display. Apple CarPlay is available or standard with most trims. There’s also a 12.3-inch digital dashboard with digital gauges, showing speed, MPG, and navigation information. An optional 10.8-inch head-up display provides even more details on speed limits and road signs. Wireless phone charging and a Wi-Fi hotspot are also included in some 2022 Nissan Rogues. NissanConnect services also integrate with Amazon Alexa and Google.
Safety Features
Nissan doesn’t hold back on standard safety features and driver assists. Anyone getting behind the wheel of a 2022 Nissan Rogue will have automatic high-beam headlights, blind spot monitoring and a rear cross traffic alert, a rearview camera, a lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and rear parking sensors. Forward and reverse emergency braking are also included. The forward emergency braking is accompanied by pedestrian and cyclist detection. A driver attention monitor, which helps to make sure the driver is alert, is standard, too.
2022 Nissan Rogue Trims & Pricing
Nissan Rogue S – $26,850
Nissan’s base Rogue trim has good infotainment with an eight-inch touch screen, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, and a four-speaker stereo. A driver attention monitor, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and lane departure warning are all standard. FWD is standard on all 2022 Nissan Rogue trims, but AWD is available on all trim levels for $1,500 extra.
Nissan Rogue SV – $28,540
Just a couple thousand dollars extra for the 2022 Nissan Rogue SV gets 18-inch alloy wheels, an eight-way power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Proximity keyless entry and remote start help the driver get situated quicker. The four-speaker stereo in the Rogue S becomes a six-speakers stereo in the Rogue SV. There are two additional rear-seat USB ports as well. Bonus driver assists include adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. The SV Premium package is also available. That package includes heated front seats and a heating steering wheel, both with synthetic leather. A power liftgate, panoramic moonroof, and roof rails are all part of the package, too.
Nissan Rogue SL – $33,200
Moving up one more step to the Nissan Rogue SL crosses over into the $30,000+ range. The alloy wheels increase to 19 inches with this trim. Interior trim leather is added, too. A hands-free power liftgate, a 360-degree camera, tri-zone climate control, and a panoramic moonroof are all standard in the 2022 Nissan Rogue SL. The seats get a big increase with memory driver seats and a powered front passenger seat. The SL Premium package includes navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, a nine-inch touchscreen, and a 10-speaker Bose audio system. Driver assists like front parking sensors and road sign recognition are part of the package, increasing safety.
Nissan Rogue Platinum – $36,630
Rounding out the 2022 Nissan Rogue lineup is the Platinum trim. It features quilted leather seats and heated rear seats (sure to be popular with the passengers in your life). On the tech side of things, the Rogue Platinum has wireless device charging, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and a head-up display for an additional few hundred dollars.
Warranties
Nissan offers two warranties on the 2022 Rogue. There is a three-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty. There’s also a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Each trim level has some pretty obvious additional added benefits. For under $40,000, the Nissan Rogue Platinum gets all of them, but that may be out of budget for some people. If that’s the case, a Nissan Rogue SV gets the job done.
The SV may not include leather-trimmed or memory driver seats, but it has more than enough extra features to make life a little easier as a driver. The fact that Nissan automatically includes so many driver assists as standard features makes getting even the most basic of trims strong options. Then you factor in the handful of additional benefits that come with the Rogue SV, and you get a competent, under $30,000 SUV that’s not completely without the frills.
