Alright, let’s talk about the Ford Edge. Even though the 2024 Ford Edge was left essentially unchanged from the 2023 model, it’s still a well-performing SUV. The Edge doesn’t disappoint when it comes to technology. It’s got a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 12-inch vertically-oriented touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The audio system is amped up with either six or nine speakers. These features only get better as you move up to the highest of the five trims, too. A hands-free power liftgate, an automated parking system, a wireless charging pad, and extra charging outlets all get added to trims like the ST-Line, Titanium, and ST trims.
If you look under the hood of most 2024 Ford Edge models, you’ll find a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 280 lb-ft of torque with an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the ST trim energizes the Edge a bit more with a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6. That engine mates to a seven-speed automatic to make 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. AWD is used throughout the 2024 Edge lineup. The turbo engine gets 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter base engine gets better gas mileage with 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Though it doesn’t necessarily excel in these areas, the Ford Edge does well enough when it comes to comfort and the interior. Synthetic or genuine leather is quilted. The ST has silver stitching, too. Not only that, but there are also ventilated front seats, heated back seats, and power-adjustable front seats at certain trim levels. With 42.6 inches of legroom up front and 40.6 inches of legroom in the back, there’s a decent amount of space, but five full-size passengers may be pushing it on a long road trip. Space in the cargo area is sufficient, though. There is normally 39.2 cu-ft of space in the cargo area, but when the second row is folded in a 60/40 split, that expands to 73.4 cu-ft.

Some of the best parts of the 2024 Chevy Blazer can be found inside the cabin of the 2024 Blazer. White contrast stitching is included in models with cloth and leather upholstery. Heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard features. There’s a pretty good amount of space for five people, too. The Premier model has a sliding seat that offers up to 40” of legroom for those in the rear seat. Speaking of room, there’s 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat. If seats are folded, there is 64 cubic feet of volume.
Not only is there space and luxury in the 2024 Chevy Blazer, there are also a lot of useful tech-based features. For example, the Blazer has a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless smartphone mirroring, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and two USB ports. That’s all standard! Features only get better with higher trim levels. Navigation, a wireless charging pad, a digital rearview mirror, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system are all added on with higher trims. Safety isn’t overlooked either, each 2024 Blazer equipped with forward collision mitigation, automatic high beams, front pedestrian braking, and a lane-keeping system.
The four trims (2LT, 3LT, RS, Premier) on the 2024 Chevy Blazer range from $36,795 to just over $44,000 and come with FWD or AWD. A nine-speed automatic transmission is used on all models. Two engines offer a little bit of choice. There’s a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 with 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and a V6 that makes 308 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0-liter delivers the best gas mileage with 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler definitely has choices. With trims that range from $31,895 to $88,190, buyers can go as basic or equipped as they want. Most trims are offered in two or four-door variations. The interior includes a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and seats that are decently cushioned for four (or five if you don’t mind being a little tight) adults. Of course, features get better and better as you get into Rubicon 392 trim territory. Heated front seats show up with the Sahara trim, There aren’t only different options on the seven available trims, but there are also four different powertrains, all with 4WD.
A V6 offers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque with a six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mates to the eight-speed automatic to deliver 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Then there’s a 6.4-liter V8 that makes 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is also part of the lineup, combining a 2.0-liter V8 and an electric motor to make a total of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. There’s definitely a little bit of powertrain variety here. The real gem for any Jeep Wrangler owner, though, is the 12.9 inches of ground clearance, 34” water fording depth, and 47.4-degree approach angle. This is the vehicle you want if off-roading is your passion.
The most fuel-efficient combination is the 2.0-liter turbo, making a combined 21 mpg. The plug-in hybrid gets 21 miles on electric power and drops to a combined 20 mpg on just gasoline. The V6 earns an EPA-estimated 19 mpg combined while the V8 musters just 14 mpg combined. Fuel numbers aren’t the only unimpressive stats on some 2024 Jeep Wrangler models. Cargo space isn’t exactly impressive on two-door models, measuring only 12.9 cubic feet. What’s worse is that the rear seats don’t fold completely flat on two-door Jeep Wranglers either. A number the 2024 Wrangler does well with? Towing. When equipped properly, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler can tow up to 5,000 lbs.

Although the Murano could use some updating (this model is still part of the third generation that was introduced in 2014), the 2024 Nissan Murano is still a good option, and good enough to earn a good spot on our list. There are only three trims to pick from when looking at the 2024 Murano: the SV, the SL, and the Platinum. Prices start at $39,285 and max out at $47,295. Buyers can’t go for the bare minimum, but the top-tiered trim isn’t completely outrageous, either.
The same 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6, with 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, drives every Murano forward with the help of a CVT. Though CVT isn’t as smooth as it could be, the suspension does leave passengers with a lot of comfort (even if it doesn’t leave the driver with a lot of excitement). Along with comfort, the interior really caters to making the Murano an enjoyable ride. The seats are cushy and supportive, the dashboard layout is easy to read and control, and Nissan left 39.9” of legroom for rear-seat passengers.
The Murano also comes with six speakers or an 11-speaker Bose unit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, a heated steering wheel, a surround-view camera, and front parking sensors. The technology, in particular the number of safety features and driver assists that come with every Murano, is where the SUV scores some points. Forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a lane-departure warning are all included at the base level. Granted, maybe that’s expected since the base Murano starts at $37,000, but that’s a pretty healthy list of features for the SV trim.

If you thought it had been a while since Nissan updated the Murano, it’s been even longer since a Toyota 4Runner update. The 2024 4Runner is part of the fifth generation, which started way back in 2010. Still, it’s well-rounded enough of a vehicle to earn a spot here. First of all, there are seven available trims, so plenty of options for everyone. Pricing starts at $41,000 for the base trim, but, unlike the price, the powertrain doesn’t change trim-by-trim. Every 2024 Toyota 4Runner is powered by a 4.0-liter V6 that works in conjunction with a five-speed automatic transmission to make 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. There’s 2WD or 4WD, but either way, this SUV gets 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
Probably the most important thing about the Toyota 4Runner, though, is that it’s got real ability. There’s a 5,000 lb. tow ability and some impressive off-roading ability! Ground clearance measures between nine and 9.6 inches. Plus, TRD Off-Road and Pro trim levels add an ABS configuration, Fox dampers, specially tuned springs, Multi-Terrain Select drive modes, and Crawl Control. The 4Runner can get off the paved road and do just fine!
Some of the features inside the 4Runner are fairly nice, too. The touchscreen maxes out at eight inches, but there’s an eight-speaker or even a 15-speaker audio system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, connected navigation, and Amazon Alexa integration. Not just made for convenience, the 4Runner also brings in blind-spot monitoring, a rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a lane-departure warning, parking sensors in the front and back, and forward collision mitigation. All of those things certainly help make the 4Runner modern and well-equipped.

Moving up our list, the 2024 Honda Passport finds its place. Of all the rankings we gave it, the powertrain score came out as the highest. Even though all three trims have the same 3.50-liter V6, it’s a smooth engine that mates to an equally smooth nine-speed automatic transmission. The result is 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. When all cylinders aren’t needed, the V6 shuts down half of its cylinders to save on fuel. The EPA rates the 2024 Passport at 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The AWD Passport also has a variable torque management system which basically helps distribute torque to all wheels independently so that It’s more stable on all terrains. Depending on the driving conditions, a certain amount of torque will be dedicated to the wheels. The 2024 Honda Passport is enhanced by some nice driver assists, too. Forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist are all included even at the base level.
Next up, the interior. Fitting five people into the two rows of the 2024 Honda Passport isn’t impossible. There’s a decent amount of space for the passengers. In fact, there’s 61.9 inches of shoulder room for rear passengers along with 39.6 inches of rear leg room. Up front, passengers get 40.9 inches for their legs. When it comes to room, there’s also 77.7 cu-ft of cargo space if the second row is folded down. There’s 41.2 cu-ft of space when the seats are upright and in place.
A remote start, an auto-dimming rearview window, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and heated and power-adjustable front seats are all standard. It also comes with a wireless phone charging pad, USB ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A seven-stereo speaker is also standard, but there’s the option for a 10-speaker system on higher trims. The infotainment touchscreen is the only area where the interior is kind of a letdown. It only measures eight inches.

There’s not much downside when it comes to choosing the 2024 Subaru Outback. No matter what area we looked at, from overall value to technology to interior to the powertrain, the 2024 Outback scored an eight or above out of a possible 10 points. Right out of the gate, the 2024 Outback does well with a decent 182-horsepower four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine. Though there is some lag, the available turbocharged cylinder makes 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both engines pair with a CVT. Fuel efficiency is hard to beat with 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway with that base engine. The turbocharged version gets 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, too.
The interior can’t be overlooked either. The 2024 Subaru Outback offers loads of visibility and a good amount of comfort. Cloth, leather-trimmed, and Nappa-leather-trimmed seats are stylish and cushioned. Passengers in the first row of the Outback get 42.8 inches of legroom. In back, there’s 39.5 inches of legroom. That’s right around the space in our other top picks for the Best Mid-Sized 2-Row SUVs of 2024. Of course, the cargo area is great with 32.6 cu-ft of regular capacity. That space expands to 75.6 cu-ft if second-row seats are folded.
The most desired driver assists and entertainment features are all present. There’s the touchscreen that is either seven inches or 11.6 inches. There’s navigation, wireless Apple and Android connectivity, four USB ports, and a four, six, or 12-speaker audio system. The base trim also comes equipped with forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, pedestrian detection, adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera. By the time you get up to the Touring XT trim, there’s a 180-degree front-view camera, ventilated front seats, and onboard navigation, too. The 2024 Subaru Outback is just a solid SUV no matter what features you’re looking at and comparing.

It’s hard to beat the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee when it comes to, well, any category. 13 different trims can definitely make choosing the right Grand Cherokee a little difficult, but, man oh man, are there ever options! With 13 trims, it only makes sense that there are multiple powertrain options, too. There’s a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. A 5.7-liter V8 makes 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Both use an eight-speed automatic transmission. There’s also a plug-in hybrid powertrain that uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. 4WD isn’t standard across the lineup, but it is available across the lineup. The most fuel-efficient option you’ll get is the 3.6-liter engine with 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. However, the hybrid gets a combined 23 mpg with 26 mpg of all-electric range.
The interior ranges from somewhat basic to fairly luxurious with materials that range from cloth and hard plastics to soft-touch surfaces and real leather. Open-pore wood trim can be found in the top-of-the-line Summit Reserve trim. Not without technology, the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a variety of features at certain trim levels. There are auto-dimming mirrors, power-adjustable front seats, driver’s seat memory settings, a 10.25-inch front-passenger infotainment display, quad-zone climate control, and even a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system!
For up to $80,000, the features don’t end there. Some of the standard and available driver assists include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a forward collision warning, rear parking sensors, lane-keep assist, a cross-traffic alert, a driver attention warning, and a surround-view camera. The Overland gets even more off-roading ability with hill descent control, a two-speed transfer case, and adaptive air suspension. If you’re going camping or just out for a day-long adventure, you’ll probably be taking a few items with you. Well, the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,200 lbs. when equipped properly. Plus, there’s 37.7 cu-ft of normal cargo capacity. That increases to 70.8 cu-ft of cargo room with second-row seats folded down. With so many trims, so many features, and so many choices (with such a wide price range), it’s no wonder the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee has such broad appeal. There’s really not much to complain about here.
