New 2023 Cars Worth the Wait

Vehicles from Tesla, BMW, Lamborghini, Kia, and Hyundai make up our list of new 2023 models that’ll be worth the wait.

Breaking the Mold: Exciting New Cars, Trucks, and SUVs

Every year, new cars make their way into the hands of the public. 2023 is shaping up to be something special though. Not only are we getting new flagship products all over the auto industry but we might actually get something very angular that was promised to us back in 2019. Let’s dive into the cars coming in 2023 that are worth the wait. One is just arriving at dealers as we speak.

BMW XM

It might not look exactly like the XM concept from 2021 but the all-new 2023 BMW XM is about as close to a concept as you’ll get in a production car. Aside from its so-ugly-that-it’s-kinda-cool styling, it features 23-inch wheels, a wild curved infotainment screen, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain good for 644 hp.

The XM needs that power too because it tips the scales at just over 6,000 pounds or three tons. In fact, it’s the heaviest production BMW ever made. To manage that weight and power it gets special adaptive dampers working in unison with coil springs and an active anti-roll bar. For all of this speed, luxury, and innovation, the XM starts at an eye-watering $159,995. If you don’t have that kind of cash laying around, Jeep has a slew of new electrified SUVs coming in the near future that you might prefer.

Lamborghini Aventador Successor

There’s a lot left to learn about the next flagship from the house of the raging bull. For the time being, we know that it’s similarly sized to the outgoing Aventador and that it’ll feature an electrified V12. While yet unconfirmed, it could end up being the very last V12 engine that Lamborghini ever designs before the brand goes all-electric in the future.

We’re willing to bet that the car will feature a similar system to the one found in the Sian FKP37 and the Countach hybrid. Those cars use a supercapacitor instead of a battery to provide electrified torque fill between gaps in the power band.

Spy shots seem to indicate that the new engine will rev to at least 8,500 RPM. That’s a great sign considering that most automakers in this sector are downsizing engines and resorting to turbocharging to keep power numbers up. We expect the new Lamborghini to make somewhere around 790 hp. Rumors are swirling that the name of the new car will be Revuelto. We’ll know all the details sometime in March of 2023 when it’s revealed.

Kia EV6 GT

Perhaps this is a bit of a cheeky pick seeing as units of the EV6 GT are arriving at dealers now but we think it’s one of the most important cars of 2023. As Kia sunsets the fantastic Stinger sedan, the EV6 GT is meant to take its place at the top of the brand hierarchy. It does that with dual electric motors and 576 hp.

In track and street testing, we found it to be a serious performer and worthy of its $61,400 price tag. The big question is how well will it sell. If it can be a hit for the bean counters it could mean even bigger things for the future of Kia. Hopefully, high interest rates won’t eliminate too many potential buyers.

Hyundai Ioniq 6

The other big Korean brand is betting on its new Ioniq 6 to steal sales from other marquees. Unlike the EV6 GT, the Ioniq 6 is aimed squarely at luxury sedans that cost more than it does. It’ll come with either a 55 kWh battery or a larger 77.4 kWh battery and with the latter can go somewhere around 340 miles on a single charge. Expect a similar though more upscale interior as the one found in the Ioniq 5 crossover.

The 6 gets a large infotainment/gauge cluster unit along with a simple and sleek dash and door card design. Expect Hyundai to follow the normal Ioniq 6 with N-Line and dedicated N trims that should be faster and more powerful. We hope they shock us and release a production version of the wild hybrid racer they debuted at the LA Auto Show.

Tesla Cybertruck

We can hear the comment section already but yes, we actually think that Tesla will manage to drive at least a few Cybertrucks off of the production floor during the 2023 calendar year. Production tooling has been documented during installation at the Texas plant where the Cybertruck will be produced. In addition, the GigaPress, a large device that will form much of the Cybertrucks body, is also there. On top of everything, CEO Elon Musk has reiterated numerous times that production in late 2023 is still on schedule.

Should the big boxy Tesla make it onto public roads in 2023 it’ll be a sight to behold for sure. Will it actually be good enough and priced competitively enough to steal sales from Ford and Rivian who’ve both beaten Tesla to the EV pickup truck dance? We can’t say for sure but Tesla faithful will certainly pick it over anything else. All that being said, we can’t promise whether or not the window will actually be ball bearing proof much less bulletproof.
