What’s New for the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer?
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is all new for the 2022 model year. Jeep revived the Grand Wagoneer and the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer as their premium SUV offerings. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is full of unique features, interior options, and technology that hasn’t been seen on a Jeep product to date.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Powertrain
When Jeep first announced the Grand Wagoneer it said that a single powertrain, namely a 6.4-liter V8 would be the motivating factor. With 471-horsepower on tap it’s never lackluster or slow but keep in mind that the Grand Wagoneer weighs in at around 6,400 pounds. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, it swaps cogs with ease and has no problem passing on the highway either.
What we didn’t know was that Jeep was also planning to implant a new twin-turbo inline-six engine into the lineup. Next year it’ll be used for the long-wheelbase version of the Grand Wagoneer but buyers can now add it to the normal 2022 Grand Wagoneer for just $2,000. It makes 510-horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. We haven’t had the chance to drive one yet as it’s just been announced but we expect nothing but good things from it. It will use the same eight-speed automatic.
The only detracting factor with regard to the way the Grand Wagoneer drives is the fact that it’s huge and it behaves like it. While many rivals in this space manage to feel smaller behind the wheel than they actually are, the Grand Wagoneer lumbers with vague steering and copious amounts of body roll when really pushed into a corner.
Towing & Payload
With a maximum towing capacity of 9,860 pounds, the Grand Wagoneer is no slouch. That’s more than enough to haul around a large load while keeping six or seven passengers comfortable inside the Jeep itself. There’s no word on how much the SUV will pull with the new inline-six engine just yet.
Fuel Economy & MPG
The V8 version of the Grand Wagoneer gets 13 MPG in the city and 18 on the highway according to the EPA. No figures have been released on the economy of the inline-six but Jeep says it’ll get one or two miles per gallon better than the V8 on average.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space
The Grand Wagoneer focuses heavily on providing an exceptional interior experience and it achieves that goal with ease. Of course, with a starting price of about $90,000 it probably should. Still, we are impressed with how luxurious a vehicle with a Jeep badge on the front (It’s not actually anywhere on the vehicle) can be. It’s great compared to the competition and the front two rows are especially impressive. Both the driver and front passenger have access to a slew of seat adjustments, heating, ventilation, and even a massaging function. It’s crazy, even the headrest adjusts in four different directions.
We also love the little touches that make this SUV even more comfortable. For example, adults can fit in the third row without issue. In addition, the adaptive suspension can be set up to lower every time the Grand Wagoneer is in park which makes ingress and egress much easier. Finally, the flagship Jeep SUV is very quiet, which is not something we’re accustomed to saying about any Jeep product.
Entertainment & Technology
Jeep hits the technology game out of the park too with about four screens up front and over six feet of the interior screen when combined. Probably the most shocking is the one found in the dashboard that’s just for the front passenger. Not only can occupants watch whatever they want on their own, but they can also plug something like a game console into the system and play to their heart’s content. They can even use a camera feature to watch the rear seat occupants. It’s not distracting for the driver either as it’s basically invisible from the driver’s seat.
The downside is that some of the infotainment system itself is quite distracting. It doesn’t offer any sort of feedback when you select things so sometimes you’re left wondering if what you wanted to do has been done unless you pull your eyes away from the road. We appreciate that Jeep added physical climate controls to back up the touch-sensitive ones.
Safety Features
The NHTSA and the IIHS have yet to release any scores or information about how safe the Grand Wagoneer is. Nevertheless, we love that Jeep has included a number of advanced driver assistance features as standard. Every Grand Wagoneer gets blind-spot monitoring, forward collision mitigation, a heads-up display, and adaptive cruise control.
2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Trims & Pricing
Series I – $88,640
The base Grand Wagoneer comes with 20-inch wheels, adaptive air suspension, a panoramic sunroof, a 12-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, integrated navigation, 19 McIntosh speakers, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated massaging front seats, power-adjustable pedals, customizable ambient interior lighting, retractable running boards, a hands-free liftgate, and a tow hitch. In terms of safety equipment, it comes with a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera system, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision mitigation.
Series II – $98,640
The Series II adds a suede headliner, 22-inch wheels, upgraded leather upholstery, passenger seat memory settings, a digital rearview mirror, driver attention warning, and traffic sign recognition.
Obsidian – $104,135
This trim adds a black roof, piano black trim, adjustable roof rail crossbars, a front console cooling box, ventilated second-row seats, a front passenger interactive display, and a 23-speaker McIntosh audio system.
Series III – $107,995
This is as good as it gets with rear seat camera monitoring, enhanced adaptive cruise control, and color-tinted windows. Buyers can also add a rear seat entertainment option with a pair of second-row 10.1-inch screens with Amazon Fire TV.
Warranties
Jeep offers a three-year or 36,000-mile limited warranty in conjunction with a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty on every Grand Wagoneer. In addition, it covers all routine maintenance for the first three years of ownership no matter how far you drive.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is what a flagship vehicle should be. No, it’s not quick but that’s not what the Grand Wagoneer is about. This SUV is totally focused on being comfortable, luxurious, and opulent. It achieves each of those goals with outstanding technology, fantastic materials, and so much space that six or seven adults can ride in comfort. Yes, this is a very expensive vehicle, but there’s no question that you’ll get a lot for your money.
