The 2024 Honda CR-V is only the second model into the sixth generation of the popular SUV. After a fully redesigned 2023 CR-V introduced several changes, Honda could have just left the 2024 model as is. Largely, it is the same as the 2023 model, but the 2024 CR-V has a few updates itself. First, there’s a new Sport-L trim level which is placed between the Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. The Sport-L has a hybrid powertrain, a wireless charging pad, leather seats, and more premium features. Outside of that, there aren’t any notable changes outside of an overall price increase across the board.

When it comes to power, the CR-V isn’t packed with it. Whether it’s a front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) model, the continuously variable transmission (CVT) can feel sluggish. There is enough power for most driving situations, but passing and merging isn’t done easily. You have to push that gas pedal down. You’ll know when it’s powering up because you’ll hear it and feel a bit of delayed response.
However, when compared to others in the class, the 2024 Honda CR-V gets a pass. For the price, it’s acceptable. It does feel responsive in most day-to-day driving situations that don’t involve a freeway or interstate. It stops smoothly and never feels frantic. Hill-descent control is a standard feature, so that helps when traveling any declines.
There are a couple of different powertrain options, so you can pick the one that works best for you. All gasoline-powered models have a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder that makes 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. 2024 CR-V hybrid models pair two electric motors with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder for a combined 204 horsepower. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that the 1.5-liter turbo achieves 28 miles per gallon (mpg) in city driving and 34 mpg on the highway. The FWD Sport Hybrid does the best with an impressive 43 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
Although there’s a lot of hard plastic inside the 2024 Honda CR-V, it looks fairly upscale. In fact, the quality of the interior helped earn the CR-V a top spot on our list of the Best 2023 Compact SUVs. The honeycomb texture in the dash is a nice touch. Physical knobs to control audio and temperature throughout the cabin. Leather-trimmed, heated seats definitely boost the comfort level in some trims. So does the power adjustment for the driver and front passenger. Although all of the seats have a good amount of cushion, Honda utilized body-stabilizing front seats designed specifically to decrease fatigue on a long road trip.
There’s a pretty standard amount of legroom in the 2024 Honda CR-V. 41.3 inches is given to the first-row passengers and 41 inches is dedicated to the back row. For comparison purposes, the 2024 Mazda CX-5 has 41 inches up front and 39.6 inches in the back. The 2024 Kia Sportage has 41.4 inches in front and 41.3 inches in the rear. One more comparison for you: the 2024 Hyundai Tucson’s first-row legroom measures 41.4 inches with 41.3 inches in the rear. The 2024 CR-V gives up a little bit of space in the back row, but not much.
Cargo space measures 39.3 cu. ft. with the back row seats upright and in place. Honda was generous when it comes to the width and vertical height, so fitting larger objects in the cargo area isn’t as difficult as it is in some other SUVs like the Nissan Rogue. Whether you’re in a hybrid CR-V or a non-hybrid CR-V, you get the same cargo space. The powertrain change doesn’t impact the space in back.
The 2024 Honda CR-V has all the modern technology you’d expect to find in a new model SUV. The only downside is that a couple of the features you’d hope would be available on lower trims aren’t. They aren’t even optional, so you have to go all the way to the top to get them. However, that’s only the case for a couple of features. The rest of the trims are pretty packed with infotainment and driver assists.
Depending on the trim, owners will get a seven-inch touchscreen or nine-inch infotainment touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is standard, though some 2024 CR-V trims have wireless integration. A navigation system with voice recognition system can only be found on the Sport Touring trim.
Other features available on several trims are extra USB charging ports, driver’s seat 10-way power adjustments, and HD radio. The 2024 Honda CR-V sound system is available with four speakers, six speakers, eight speakers, or 12 speakers. Push-button start, LED cargo lights, a rear-window defroster, and heated front seats can be found on most trims, too.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn’t rated the 2024 Honda CR-V yet and neither did the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, but Honda did load the vehicle up with a bunch of safety features, including forward collision warning, automatic braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and LED headlights. A cross-traffic monitor, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high-beam headlights are available on select models, too. There’s no 360-degree overhead camera, unfortunately. However, the CR-V does have a wide-angle rearview camera that is useful.
There are six trims to choose from when looking at the 2024 Honda CR-V. Three of them have hybrid powertrains and all of them are currently under $40,000.
Kicking things off is the LX trim, equipped with the 1.5-liter turbo, 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, and a push-button start. Safety features include forward collision warning with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. Inside is a seven-inch center console touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a 2.5-Amp front-row USB port. Also up front (and in the cargo area) is a 12-volt power outlet.
Driver assists aren’t added to the EX trim, but features like a sunroof, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a six-speaker sound system have all been added. At this level, a 3.0-Amp USB charging port has been added, one in the front row and two in the second. Heated side mirrors and dual-zone climate control are also included. Glass in the rear is tinted starting with the EX trim.
This is the first introduction of the two electric motors and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Accompanying the hybrid powertrain is a CR-V Sport appearance package that consists of darker exterior features like gloss black roof rails. Dual chrome exhaust finishers also come with the Sport Hybrid. Inside is a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Unique to all of the hybrid models is a tire repair kit that comes with 24-hour assistance. All hybrid models also have four driving modes: ECON, normal, snow, and sport modes.
Things pick up again with the EX-L. A wireless smartphone charging pad, wireless connectivity for Apple and Android, a nine-inch touchscreen, and eight-speaker sound system are some of the cabin upgrades. The front passenger seat has power adjustments here, and the driver’s seat has memory settings. A power tailgate is programmable with a preferred height setting, too. Front and rear parking sensors and low-speed automatic braking, which kicks in when going between one and six miles per hour, have also been added to the 2024 Honda CR-V EX-L.
As the newest trim in the lineup, the Sport-L Hybrid builds off the Sport Hybrid trim and the EX-L trim with a mixture of those same features. For example, the Sport-L Hybrid has HD radio, front passenger seat adjustments, and an automatic dimming rearview mirror. Each of those features can also be found on the EX-L. However, the Sport L-Hybrid also has dual chrome exhaust finishers and gloss black roof rails, just like the Sport Hybrid. It’s got a great combination of features. In addition to that, Sport-L Hybrid owners get leather-trimmed seats with orange stitching.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Sport Touring. It’s the only trim of the bunch that has 19-inch gloss black wheels, a hands-free tailgate, a heated steering wheel, WiFi hotspot capability, and an integrated navigation system. A 12-speaker Bose premium audio system is also included. Honda also threw in a blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert.
The Honda CR-V doesn’t have those luxury features like a head-up display or a 360-degree overhead camera, it provides great bang for your buck! Three trims with a hybrid powertrain and three trims without, each of them with a good amount of driver assists and infotainment. Warranty coverage lasts three years or 36,000 miles for basic issues. There’s also a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

If you’re looking for a decent compact crossover with impressive comfort, a hybrid or gasoline powertrain, up-to-date infotainment, and dependable safety features, then the 2024 Honda CR-V is worth considering. It checks a lot of boxes as long as you’re not looking for an off-roading master or speed demon. Without getting into the $40,000 and $50,000 range, the CR-V still gives everyday drivers what they expect out of a daily driver.
Color options include Urban Gray Pearl, Canyon River Blue Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteorite Gray Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, and Still Night Pearl. Some colors are only available on certain trim levels and a $455 fee is added to premium colors.
The Sport-L Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid, in two-wheel drive configurations, get the best gas mileage: 43 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
