2022 Genesis GV70 Powertrain
The GV70 is available with either a 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a 375-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The V-6 is only offered on the Sport model. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard.
The base engine is adequate for city and highway driving, but the V-6 will give you a more exciting ride and delivers power when it’s needed. The GV70 excels in every category, handling just as well as its rival the BMW X3, not leaning too much in turns and taking on winding roads like a backroads champ.
A firm suspension ensures a smooth comfortable ride, but we did notice the bumps more over rough patches on city streets. The brakes are a winner as well and allow for smooth, predictable stops thanks to a just-right pedal stroke.

Towing & Payload
The base 2022 Genesis GV70 can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. This is less than many of its rivals, so for more towing capacity and cargo space the larger Genesis GV80 might be worth considering. Check out our full review of the 2023 Genesis GV80.
2022 Genesis GV70 Fuel Economy & MPG
You’ll get the best fuel efficiency with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine which gets an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The twin-turbo V-6 engine drops to 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Genesis hasn’t yet released a hybrid version of the GV70. For that you’ll have to look to its non-luxury cousin, the Hyundai Santa Fe.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space
The GV70 is a front runner for interior style and elegance. High quality materials are used throughout giving a luxurious feel—and we’d be remiss if we forgot to mention the knurled glass shift knob. The cabin is spacious, and the leather seats provide a comfortable and supportive seat for both driver and passengers. We like that the second row reclines making it more favorable for adults.
You’ll get 28.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which is generous for this class. Within the cabin you’ll find adequate storage space. Below the center armrest is a bin for larger items, but you won’t fit much into the small glove box or door pockets. We do like the wireless charging station that is deep enough for two smartphones and tucked up and out of the way.
Entertainment & Technology
The GV70 is equipped with a wide 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system that also has a user-friendly control knob. The touchscreen is located a little further away from the driver than we’d like, so it can present some operating difficulties while driving.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are standard, and you’ll have no problem charging your devices with four USB outlets, a wireless phone charger, and a 110-volt outlet. We found that the GV70’s voice controls can understand most human speech, but it can only perform functions related to the phone, navigation system, and audio system. The upgraded 16-speaker Lexicon audio system is well worth the extra money and delivers next-level, quality sound.
Safety Features
The 2022 GV70 earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) but has not yet been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It comes with a generous offering of standard safety features including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, forward automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, vehicle exit warning, a rearview camera, and driver drowsiness monitoring.
2022 Genesis GV70 Trims & Pricing
2.5T – $42,900
The 2.5T trim is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and comes with synthetic leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, remote start, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control. Technology on the 2.5T GV70 includes a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital gauge cluster, navigation, HD and satellite radio, a nine-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, wireless device charging, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
The 2.5 T comes with Standard driver assistance features like forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, forward automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, forward automatic emergency braking, vehicle exit warning, rear cross traffic alert, a rearview camera, driver drowsiness monitoring, and rear parking sensors.
The Select package is available for an additional $4,000 and adds ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 16-speaker Lexicon audio system.
A step up to the Advanced package ($4,150 + the Select package), gets you genuine leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a rear-seat reminder, a surround-view parking camera system, reverse automatic braking, front parking sensors, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.
The Sport Prestige package ($3,600 + Select and Advanced packages) adds intersection assist, unique styling elements, and a digital key that allows you to lock, unlock, and start the car from your smartphone.
3.5T Sport – $55,000
The 3.5T Sport trim is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine and comes with all of the 2.5T base trim features and adds a panoramic sunroof, genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, intersection assist, and styling upgrades.
For an additional $5,000 the Sport Advanced package adds Nappa leather upholstery, a digital key, a heated steering wheel, a 16-speaker Lexicon audio system, front parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and reverse automatic emergency braking.
The Sport Prestige package ($4,900 + the Sport Advanced package) adds heated rear seats, an electronic limited-slip differential, a head-up display, a larger digital gauge cluster, and tri-zone automatic climate control.

Warranties
Genesis offers excellent warranty coverage that tops most other premium automakers. The GV70 comes with a powertrain warranty that covers 10 years or 100,000 miles, and a limited warranty that covers 5 years or 60,000 miles. We’d have to say we’re impressed with Genesis’ first attempt at the small luxury SUV market. Coming in thousands less than most of its competitors, the GV70 offers a composed ride and just the right amount of power. With luxury strewn throughout the cabin and loads of standard features, we would go with the 3.5T Sport to get the twin-turbo V-6 engine and leather seats.
