For 2022 the new Hyundai Palisade SUV continues to impress us and strike fear in the competition by providing incredible comfort & value.

What’s New for the 2022 Hyundai Palisade?

For 2022, the new Hyundai Palisade doesn’t get any significant changes since this is only its third year of existence. Blind spot monitoring is now standard across the lineup. The Calligraphy trim is also available with front-wheel drive.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Powertrain

2022 Hyundai Palisade V6 - hyundainews.com
2022 Hyundai Palisade V6 - hyundainews.com

All 2022 Hyundai Palisade models use the same 291-horsepower V6 mated to a nine-speed automatic that drives the front wheels, with all-wheel-drive available as an option. Using just a single powertrain, the way the Hyundai Palisade drives is straightforward and easy to predict regardless of the trim level. With just shy of 300 horsepower, this three-row SUV is built to be above average on the road, and that’s what it is. It’s far superior in terms of driving dynamics than most of its rivals around the $35,000 price range. The Palisade is strong enough that it never feels underpowered. It’s also not so powerful that it’s guzzling fuel between stop lights.

Turn-in is muted near center, but feedback grows quickly and makes the 2022 Hyundai Palisade easy to place. Braking feels great providing zero reasons to have anything but supreme confidence in them even after repeated hard stops. Overall, the Palisade reminds us of a high-end Toyota Highlander in terms of driving dynamics. It’s responsible, reliable, and comfortable.

Towing & Payload

While not a gargantuan number, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade puts up a respectable 5,000-pound tow rating when it’s equipped with a load-leveling rear suspension. That’s not as much as some mainstream SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe, but it’s equal to other SUVs like the Honda Pilot and Mazda CX-9.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Fuel Economy & MPG

With only one powertrain, there’s no confusion about what kind of fuel economy the 2022 Hyundai Palisade will provide. Pick up the front-wheel-drive version and you’ll get 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Go for all-wheel-drive drivetrain and it drops to 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space

Instead of delivering class leading power or economy, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade focuses on providing comfort, and it shows. From the very first moment a passenger sees the inside of this Hyundai there should be no doubt that the ride is going to be excellent. Up front, the seats look and feel like they should be in something twice the price. The optional seats that provide ventilation and heat look even better and perform admirably.

In the second row, things are still great with a choice between a bench seat or captain’s chairs that dutifully mimic the front in terms of comfort and quality. We especially like the captain’s chairs for their added arm space and the heated option. Behind them is yet another row with above average space and supportive seating. Road noise and undulating pavement make almost no impact on Hyundai Palisade passengers, regardless of where they’re located.

Cargo space is solid, but falls behind larger three-row SUVs like the Chevrolet Suburban or Ford Expedition. Of course, it makes up for that by being easier to drive. It’s amazing to think that just a few years ago this SUV didn’t exist in any form and now it’s already this good.

Entertainment & Technology

We really like the focus that Hyundai has placed on making technology a high-point of the Palisade. All of the standard features are enough to make us feel like buyers are getting a good deal, but when we consider all that’s available on the SEL and above trims, it’s hard to find a better value in the space. Both the 8-inch and 10.25-inch touchscreens are good, but go for the larger of the two if possible. Not only does the 10.25-inch infotainment have navigation, but the smaller one just feels a little too small in a cabin this large.

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade’s self-leveling rear suspension is really cool too and manages to make towing just that much easier. Of course, adding features like the heated steering wheel, heads up display, and a giant dual-pane sunroof all put this SUV ahead of most rivals by a country mile. Finally, if equipped with the optional blind spot system, the Palisade will show you your blind spots in the gauge cluster when you activate your turn signal. We wish everyone would adopt it, because it’s just that good.

Safety Features

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is one of the safest SUVs on the roads, and that’s reflected in an IIHS Top Safety Pick + award as well as a five-star crash test rating from the NHTSA. It also comes with a full suite of advanced driver assist systems to keep its occupants just that much safer.

Calligraphy – $47,875

With a very small premium over the Limited trim, the Calligraphy gets very little in the way of upgrades. This trim’s Palisade upgrades come in the form of quilted leather door cards, a simulated leather headliner, and unique exterior trim.

Warranties

Hyundai and its corporate partner Kia both offer the businesses best warranty. When it comes to the 2022 Hyundai Palisade and its corporate sibling, the Kia Telluride. That includes a 5-year/50,000-mile limited warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 3 years or 36,000 miles of complimentary service.

What we think

It’s pretty clear we’re fans of the Palisade. Sure, it’s possible to cherry pick parts of it that aren’t as strong as rivals. Still, as a whole vehicle, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade is clearly one of the best values around in the three-row SUV space.
