Check out our list of high-tech cars for 2023 to learn about all the latest and greatest digital and mechanical vehicular innovations this year.

New Year, New High Tech Cars

Considering you can now carry around the kind of computing power that would have put a human on the moon 50 years ago – in your pocket – the speed with which high tech cars become ever techier is perhaps not surprising.

From giant touchscreen infotainment interfaces and wireless smartphone connectivity to automated driving options and IMAX-quality sound systems, the array of technological wizardry at work in modern vehicles is pretty darn impressive. That’s why we’ve put together this list of high-tech cars to look for in 2023. Be sure to check out our coverage of the coolest cars from the 2022 CES show for even more options.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

With a name like Blackwing, the hottest of Cadillac’s CT5 lineup seems required to be a showoff in the technology space. And it does not disappoint, blending digital and mechanical feats of engineering brilliance. The powertrain alone is jaw-dropping. Hand-assembled, this supercharged 6.2-liter V8 delivers more than 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission with active rev matching and no-lift shifting!

In addition to that jaw-dropping power, the CT5-V comes with some impressive technology. There is a 12-inch configurable instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with backup physical knobs, wireless Apple and Android smartphone integration, and the list goes on. But perhaps most impressive is the integrated performance data recorder that allows owners to record, analyze, and replay their latest high-speed run.

Ford F-150

As Ford’s flagship, the F-150 gets all the best goodies from dual 12-inch displays up front to a shifter that folds flat into a worktable and payload scales built into the cargo bed that can be managed from the driver’s seat. Opt for the hybrid powertrain and you’ll have enough torque to tow 12,700 pounds and the option for a 7.2 kW generator integrated into the cargo bed wall.

The F-150 comes with six household power outlets, you can operate a job site or your kid’s theater troupe production. The list goes on with hands-free BlueCruise self-driving tech, wireless phone charging, and self-parking assist. If that’s not what you’re looking for, perhaps the fully-electric Lightning or 700-horse Raptor R is more your speed.

Genesis G90

If big bodacious executive cruisers are your jam, the Genesis G90 is not to be missed, and it won’t be with eye-popping style and the technology to back up those looks. For instance, there is the Fingerprint Authentication System that allows drivers to start the car and load their settings by simply pressing their finger to a center console touchpad. This also enables Genesis CarPay, a system that enables payment for filling up the tank card-free.

The technology does not stop at the dashboard. Rear seat occupants can enjoy their own 8-inch touchscreen embedded in the center armrest that controls everything from ambient lighting and window shades to the available massaging seats. Outside, the flush-mounted door handles emerge from their homes upon the owner’s approach who may have just summoned the G90 from its parking spot via the key fob remote control.

Polestar 2

EVs have a reputation as leading high-tech cars, particularly when they’re from a brand-new company looking to make a splash, like Polestar. Taking the idea of smartphone integration to another level, the Polestar 2 sports Android Automotive, which manages to make you feel as though you’re driving a car inside your phone.

Not to be confused with Android Auto, which mirrors your Android device’s apps onto your cars’ display, Android Automotive is the native operating system for the Polestar 2. Forget about connecting your phone to the car, simply say “Hey Google”, and away you go. Other neat techy features include adaptive cruise control with pilot assist and an available onboard heat pump that uses thermal energy from the powertrain and battery to temper cabin air.

Hyundai Sonata

Typically, the most cutting-edge tech is reserved for new cars with big price tags. Though the Hyundai Sonata doesn’t have the biggest touchscreens or most stereo speakers, it’s no slouch and is available for well under $30,000. Base model driver assists include lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and a driver attention warning, all of which you can learn more about here.

The 2023 Hyundai Sonata SEL Plus comes with Hyundai’s slick Digital Key that allows app-based car control for you or trusted friends, not to mention a 10-inch infotainment system screen, 12-inch digital instrument panel, and wireless phone charging pad. For about $35,000, top-spec Limited models bring Remote Smart Parking Assist, a Surround View Monitor, and a head-up display (HUD).

Range Rover

All-new just last year, the Range Rover backs up its eye-watering price tag with serious technology. There is the 13-inch “floating” touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Over-The-Air updates. The fully digital gauge cluster measures nearly 14 inches, while dual 11-inch rear-facing monitors keep backseat occupants entertained. Meridian delivers true surround sound with a whopping 34 speakers plus subwoofer.

The Online Pack brings unlimited media streaming, Amazon Alexa built-in, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. ClearSight Ground View allows you to see “through” the hood while maneuvering at low speed. And for those that choose to enjoy the Rover’s off-road abilities, slick features include Wade Sensing, which notifies the driver when water levels are approaching the Rover’s maximum wading depth of 35 inches.

Mercedes-Benz S Class

Befitting its flagship sedan status, the latest S-Class is a tour-de-force in the technology department. Head-up displays are practically standard at this price point, but the Benz goes further with an augmented reality feature. Blending the real and virtual worlds, it can do such things as lay a digital left-hand arrow on the actual street as you approach it.

On the safety innovation front, a new airbag for rear occupants deploys from the front seatback to provide frontal protection. Interior tech highlights include facial recognition that will activate the driver’s preferred cabin settings and a Burmester audio system with seat-integrated resonators to ensure you can hear and feel the sound.

Mazda CX-90

Between the hybridized powertrains, trick facial recognition software, and impressive level of the latest vehicle technology, it’s little wonder the all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 makes this list. Two of the three available powertrains are 3.3L turbocharged inline-sixes that draw natural comparisons to BMW. Mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system, this setup is good for 280 hp in Turbo trim or up to 340 hp on Turbo S models. Speaking of high tech, the CX-90 3.3 Turbo S trim includes a new Driver Personalization System to set up the vehicle using facial recognition based on a driver’s settings.

The plug-in hybrid Mazda CX-90 pairs a 2.5L inline-4 with a 100 KW electric motor and 17.8 kWh battery pack to offer a gas-free driving range of 26 miles.

Mazda’s Active Driving Display projects information like navigation directions on the windshield and dual 12-inch screens – one for the gauge cluster and the other for infotainment – on certain models. Add in useful touches like a 360° View Monitor with “See-Through View” that enhances visibility around the car and it becomes clear that the CX-90 is one high-tech SUV.

GMC Hummer EV Pickup

True to form, the new Hummer is an in-your-face bonkers brute that is now fully electric. Tech-enabled party tricks include Crabwalk, which is essentially diagonal driving that works in concert with four-wheel-steering. Extract Mode puts the Hummer on 6-inch stilts by maxing out the adaptive air suspension.

Waterproof underbody cameras enable fine-tuning of your trail line, there are over 25 inches of front-row screen real estate, and the suspension system automatically adjusts ride height based on conditions. The headlights animate as you approach and the wild Watts to Freedom launch control tech blends cabin animations with a physics-defying three-second launch to 60 mph.

Now engineering sentence structures, his writing infuses his auto experience with his time in marketing and his sales experience. Writing about cars for close to a decade now, he focuses on some of the more technical mechanical systems that are found under the hood and throughout a vehicle.
