What’s New for the 2022 Ford Edge?
The biggest news for the 2022 Ford Edge is that AWD is now the sole drivetrain regardless of which motor you go with, resulting in a hefty price hike. Base SE models are now $2800 more than the 2021 model – a review of which you can read here – making it only $390 cheaper than a base Explorer with AWD. Trim levels are the same for 2022 and the heavy breathing 2.7L twin-turbo V6 is still the exciting option atop the trim ladder. New design touches found in the Black Appearance and Adventure packages, along with new Stone Blue and Forged Green colors give the latest Edge added style.

2022 Ford Edge Powertrain
New for 2022, every Ford Edge is fitted with AWD and the carryover 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. Found on all trims except ST, it features an 8-speed automatic responsible for routing the 250 horses and 280 lb-ft of torques to all 4 corners. With 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque paired to a 7-speed, the Edge ST offers a significant performance upgrade that would certainly ensure its addition to this list of Best Fords.
Fully independent suspension is found across the lineup, but the ST features stiffer springs and beefier anti-roll bars for more planted handling. For $2695, the ST can be optioned with a Performance Brake package that includes 21” wheels on summer tires, larger 13.6” rotors all around, and performance brake pads to lend even more confidence behind the wheel.
Towing & Payload
A 2022 Ford Edge can handle up to 3,500 pounds of trailering, which easily bests competition like the Nissan Rogue, a comparison you can read here. To achieve that 3,500-pound capacity, you’ll need the bigger V6 motor and $435 Class II Trailer Tow package that adds a 2” receiver and trailer sway controller. Equipped with the 2.0L engine, trailering tops out at 1,500 pounds.
2022 Ford Edge Fuel Economy & MPG
Along with idle start-stop and active front grille shutters, the 2022 Ford Edge uses front air curtains, which route oncoming air through lower front fascia ducts and across the front wheels to slide through the slipstream more efficiently. All in the name of fuel economy, these features help models equipped with the four-cylinder achieve an EPA estimate of 21 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway. ST models see an efficiency drop to 19 mpg around town and 25 mpg on the open road with the larger engine option.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space
Across the 2022 Ford Edge lineup, a laminated windshield is included, but you’ll need the Titanium model to access laminated front window glass for maximum cabin serenity. A rotary shifter dial frees up space in the center console and standard dual-zone climate control makes it easy to keep driver and passengers comfortable. Heated front seats are found on SEL trim and above with ventilation and heated rears available further up the trim hierarchy. VistaRoof, the optional panoramic sunroof, makes for an airy interior feel and with the second row folded flat, things get airy indeed in the 73 cubic feet of storage volume.
Entertainment & Technology
Ford’s latest infotainment software, SYNC 4A, features enhanced voice recognition, cloud connection, an embedded Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s managed via a swipe-capable, 12” central touchscreen, all of which is standard across the board for the 2022 Ford Edge. Four USB ports are also included, but for pinch-to-zoom navigation with live traffic, a 180-degree exterior camera view, and 12-speaker audio system, you will need to move up the trim tree.
Safety Features
Co-Pilot 360 is Ford’s standard bundle of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) that includes blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and lane keeping assist that will encourage you to take a break from driving after repeated lane drifts. The Assist+ package expands upon this with automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and Evasive Steering Assist. The backup camera includes a washer to keep the lens clear and the slick Enhanced Active Park Assist will identify a parking spot, and then manage steering, shifting, throttle, and braking to park your 2022 Ford Edge for you.
2022 Ford Edge Trims & Pricing
SE – $36,795
Entry point for the 2022 Ford Edge, SE models come with the 250-horse, turbo-four powering all four wheels. Though the standard 18” alloys look good, for $1295, you can have gloss-black 19-inchers, black badges, and trim with the aptly named Black Appearance package. Keyless entry and LED headlights, daytime-running lamps, and taillights are standard fare here. Cloth upholstery is on hand, in your choice of black or tan, though the interior is dominated by a 12” touchscreen. Featuring Ford’s SYNC 4A operating system, it handles infotainment control and allows for wireless connection of Apple and Android devices.
SEL – $39,235
On SEL trim, added driver conveniences include heated side mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and 10-way power-adjustable seat. Synthetic “ActiveX” upholstery supplants cloth and promises an easy-to-clean surface while the leather-wrapped steering wheel classes things up. A pair of 4.2” digital screens sit on either side of the gauge cluster and three more speakers are added to the stereo for a total of nine. The Adventure package gives the cabin an upmarket look with Navy Pier surfaces and orange accent stitching, plus gray-finished 18” wheels.
ST-Line – $42,985
For sporty looks without the big motor, an ST-Line Edge comes with body-colored lower cladding, 20” black rims, and LED fog lamps. Red stitching inside with suede-ish “Miko” seat inserts push the theme while a wireless charging pad and 110V receptacle up the tech game. Other niceties at this price point include a power liftgate, remote engine start, and SecuriCode keypad entry. As with the SEL, Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ adds adaptive cruise control and Evasive Steering Assist to the list of standard advanced driver-assist systems for $895.
Titanium – $42,985
Identically priced with the ST-Line, Titanium trim occupies the luxury end of the 2022 Ford Edge spectrum. A hands-free liftgate, heated steering wheel, leather seating, and ambient interior lighting speak to this mission. Bang & Olufsen arrives for audio duty with a 12-speaker system and rain-sensing wipers add convenience. Tack on the nearly $2000 Titanium Elite package for a Brunello and red interior scheme applied to the door inserts, seats, and dash surfaces.
ST – $45,650
A black mesh front grille, unique fascias on both ends, and trapezoidal exhaust tips identify the Edge ST with its exclusive twin-turbo power plant. Silver stitching and ST logos abound inside including the bolstered sport seats up front, wrapped in leather, and Miko inserts with ST embroidery. Pushing the sticker past fifty grand, the $5750 401A Equipment Group brings fully climatized front seats, heated rears, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive headlights, and more.
Warranties
The Ford warranty is somewhat bare bones in comparison to 100,000-mile coverage and complimentary maintenance that found amongst the competition. Bumper-to-bumper, the 2022 Ford Edge is warrantied for 3 years or 36,000 miles with powertrain coverage extending to 5-years/60,000-miles.

While it’s getting long in the tooth, the 2022 Ford Edge remains relevant thanks to that big infotainment screen with plenty of useful features and standard ADAS. Of course, an Edge ST is legitimately exciting, but be prepared to fork over a less exciting stack of cash.
