The streaming giant has movies, competitions, reality shows, and documentaries, but with over 17,000 titles in their library, choosing a show you want to watch can be a little overwhelming. The last thing I want to do when I finally submerge into my couch after work, errands, and chores is scroll through thousands of options. If you want to skip the searching, take a look at below. We compiled a list of the best car content currently available on Netflix!

While this isn’t entirely a car show, there is a pretty heavy automotive focus. In Swap Shop, several duos listen to a podcast in Tennessee to find local deals on a variety of items. Dale Kyker and Scott James, two of the main cast members, own Kyker’s Extreme Automotive, so they regularly restore vehicles like a 1946 Chevrolet COE or a 1970 Plymouth GTX. Many times, barn finds are what Dale and Scott end up working on. They sometimes need to bargain a bit with the colorful citizens of the Tennessee boondocks.
The show is definitely more character-focused. It is interesting to see just what obscure vehicles are surrounded by grass, sitting in someone’s backyard. Along with the automotive finds are chairs, phone booths, and certain kinds of coffee mugs, so if your TV watching partner isn’t a gear head, there’s a little something in this show for them, too. Currently, there are two seasons with six episodes each, so it’s an easy show to binge.

From the mind of comedian Jerry Seinfeld comes Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. It’s a simple concept. Jerry has a different car in each episode (often a rare, inexpensive, or classic car). He takes that car to the home of a fellow comedian (Ricky Gervais, Cedric the Entertainer, and Tina Fey, to name a few). They drive to a diner to get coffee and maybe some breakfast. Along the way, they have random conversations.
This isn’t a scripted show, but it is heavily edited obviously. I was a bit surprised, after watching this for the first time, to see that so many people recommend it as a ‘great’ car show on Netflix because the focus isn’t really on the vehicles themselves. There is a brief introduction to each vehicle, but that’s it. Still, it’s a chance to get a glimpse at some impressive vehicles like a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000, a 1972 Volkswagen Thing, or a 2017 Acura NSX. Comedy is subjective, so you may not find every guest appealing or every conversation interesting, but Jerry Seinfeld has had enough comedians on this show that there should be at least a few that you enjoy watching.

This is one of several race competition shows on Netflix, but it’s certainly unique. For one, it’s set in the Middle East and the contestants don’t speak English, so producers found voice actors to dub over the dialogue. Male and female contestants are trying to earn a $50,000 prize through a series of challenges that include drifting and racing on streets, on racetracks, and in the desert. Each driver shows up with their own car that they have tuned up. You’ve got everything from a 1991 Ford Mustang and a 1995 Toyota Supra to a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 Ford F-150.
These are modified vehicles, so it’s difficult to say who will win and who won’t. It’s one of those ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ situations. It really depends on the challenge, how augmented the vehicles are, and which contestants are racing. The show tries to add some twists in each episode, introducing new competitors and throwing out surprise challenges. YouTube personality Tareq Al Harbi hosts this show and brings a good amount of energy to it. The actual racing takes place late in each episode, so 75% of the show is interviews, friendly banter, and tuning in the garage. It’s worth a watch, though.

Ryan Friedlinghaus is the CEO of the famous West Coast Customs in California. Wraps, interiors, body work, and engine upgrades. They do it all. This show focuses on Ryan, but there’s also a little bit of shenanigans with his employees, who make up the rest of the cast members.
In each episode, Ryan and his team are presented with a job they’ve been asked to complete. They’ve worked on an armored truck for an E3 event, an H1 Hummer for the Alienware gaming company, and an RV with a juice bar for a juice company, just to name a few. Of course, each of these tasks has time constraints and they run into technical issues along the way. This show does a nice job of explaining the mechanical side of what they’re doing. There are some video montages, but this isn’t just a reality show with some quick video montages of the custom work being done. It takes you through the entire process, whether it’s installing flooring into an RV or body swapping a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro for Monster Energy drinks.

I have to admit, I didn’t know who Paul Hollywood was. Well, it turns out he’s a judge on the BBC hit, The Great British Bake Off. I’ve never watched the show, but I sure have heard a lot of people talk about it! So, why is a baking judge hosting a car show on Netflix? It turns out that he’s a racing enthusiast as well. In fact, he made his racing debut in the 2015 Beechdean AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT4. He also competed at Le Mans the same year.
With his television background and his passion for cars, he is a great choice for the show. His goal in the show is to drive across European countries in a variety of vehicles that those countries are known for making. For example, in Italy, he drove an Alfa Romeo Alfasud, a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, and a Ferrari. While driving across Germany, he drove a Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser, a BMW i8, and a Volkswagen Kombi van. Along the way he tours car factories, chats with celebrity guests, and gets stopped by an Italian Lamborghini Huracan police car. It’s an interesting concept and, while it’s not as detailed as some other shows, this is a fun watch. There are only three hour-long episodes, so this series isn’t a big-time investment.

This documentary wastes no time in getting to Juan Manuel Fangio’s impressive history of dominating the early days of Formula One racing. With 24 wins and 5 championships to his name, Juan Manuel Fangio drove for four different carmakers in the F1 circuit during his 10-year career. You’ll learn about the obstacles he overcame to make that happen. In one race, he even borrowed another driver’s car to win after his own had a crack in the steering column!
The film goes into Fangio’s childhood and how he took a gamble early on: choosing to pursue auto mechanics over his studies. It also goes into the evolution of F1 racing and the increase in safety measures after some serious wrecks left drivers and spectators injured. Archived footage and previous interviews from Fangio add a real-time feel to the storytelling.
Current and former drivers like Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Jackie Stewart and Mika Häkkinen sat down for interviews to provide context, commentary, and backup on the claim Fangio’s position as the King of F1. His nickname during his active years was ‘El Maestro’ because of the finesse and style he displayed while behind the wheel. Juan Manuel Fangio died in 1995 at 84-years-old, but his legacy obviously still lives on.

Netflix highlights a different kind of vehicle in this show. Semi-trucks are the stars here. Viewers get a shotgun seat as drivers go on marathon runs throughout the Australian outback. They’re trying to make their deliveries on time while dealing with weather, traffic, and mechanical issues, like tire blowouts. If you’ve seen Mad Max: Fury Road, you’ll probably appreciate Outback Truckers. No, there are no souped-up cars, high-speed races, or amazing transformations in this show. It still manages to be interesting. Getting a simultaneous glimpse into driving a big rig and going through the outback keeps the attention for an hour.

The next show on this list gives us inside access to the Gotham Garage and the crew there. The show is filmed in Temecula, California, and follows a group of modification experts (led by Mark Towle) as they trade up with the eventual goal of selling a showstopper for a large sum. They don’t just restore old lemons, though. They bring out-of-the-box concepts to life.
Essentially, the Gotham Garage group transforms vehicles into one-of-a-kind works of art. For example, they restored one 1955 Ford Thunderbird convertible with an entire chrome finish. The hood, the doors, the trunk. All of it. Another time they retrofitted a Ford T-Bucket hot rod into a fire truck, adding a fully custom C-cab. They also created a replica of the 1955 Lincoln Futura Batmobile. With each show, you get to know the cast a little more. They aren’t as colorful as the casts of some of the other shows listed here, but they do come up with some really unique ideas.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with F1 racing: watch this show. For anyone who is a fan of F1 racing: watch this show. It will appeal to new and avid fans alike. Now in its fourth season, Formula 1: Drive to Survive is a sports-documentary series that follows different racers in each episode. It goes in-depth on their lives and their races.
The entirety of each season covers the racers as it builds up to the yearly FIA Formula One World Championship. Sit-down interviews and behind-the-scenes footage show the tests and training the cars and drivers go through before race day. Topping it off is outstanding footage, archived and new. The sounds of the races are almost better than the footage. Even though each show is under 40 minutes in length, it’s quite a ride!

This reality show competition tests the skills of 28 elite racers as they push their supercharged custom cars to the limits through the streets of a 100-acre course that was specifically designed to challenge them. For this show, an old industrial complex was transformed into 10 different racecourses. It’s like a mash-up of American Ninja Warrior and a Fast and the Furious movie. Award-winning actress (and Fast and the Furious alum) Charlize Theron put her producer hat on for this Netflix original.
To make things a little more interesting, each contestant has a different background. The racers consist of dragsters, drifters, sleepers, and outlaws. You get a little bit of backstory on each contestant before they take to the streets. The cars range from a 1986 BMW E30 3 Series Coupe to a 2014 Ford Mustang outfitted with a 3.7 V6 Cyclone engine to a 1968 Dodge Charger reinforced with a BMW E39 M5 S62B50 V8 engine. While you don’t see the maintenance involved in prepping the vehicle, you get analysis from car enthusiasts, multiple camera angles, and thrilling races!

This one may be my personal favorite because the people involved are fun, interesting, and a little over-the-top. The show, which is filmed in the Rocky Mountain town of Tappen, British Columbia, follows Mike Hall and his team as they try to restore the hundreds of beaten down cars Mike has purchased over the years. You see, Mike has a bit of a problem. He’s addicted to buying cars, regardless of how little the cars actually function. Some of them include a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe, a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500, a 1967 Dodge Dart, and a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. There are hundreds more.
Connor, Mike’s son, and Avery Shoaf, the shop manager, are along for the series, trying to convince Mike to sell more cars than he buys so that his business can actually turn a profit. The show’s producers did a good job balancing the Hoarders aspect of the show with actual interesting information on the restoration process. Of course, seeing the before and after of each car is impressive. With six episodes in three different seasons, this show is quick enough to binge. It doesn’t require a lot of attention, so it can be enjoyed while multi-tasking or while sitting back with a cold drink in your hand.

Who doesn’t like a good David versus Goliath story? That’s what Fastest Car offers. Sleepers vs. supercars. Every show features four racers: three regular, everyday people who drive tricked-out sleeper cars, and one person who is driving an exotic supercar, renowned for its speed. The head-to-head competition pits all four drivers against each other.
The sleepers have turned their regular 1964 Chevy Pickup, 1971 Ford Pinto, or even 2014 Honda Odyssey into a racing machine. There are no real rules when it comes to the modifications made. Some use Nitrous oxide. Some use advanced computer programs to monitor RPM, torque, horsepower, and other statistics. Others just use elbow grease and tools from the garage to make sure their car is in prime racing condition. The fourth competitor is a big-time aficionado who drives a rare, expensive, sought-after car like a 2006 Ford GT, 2016 Lamborghini Huracan, or a 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB. After learning about each contestant and the hours of labor that went into their cars, it’s off to the races! As each car takes off on a straight shot of the open road, we find out if the supercar lives up to the hype or if the sleepers can take the race.
Fastest Car is not a scripted ‘reality show.’ It has more of a documentary feel from the way it’s filmed, how the interviews are conducted, how the racers’ stories are told, and how the final race is presented. Even if someone in your family isn’t an auto enthusiast, they should appreciate some of the backstories that each contestant shares before the race. There are very inspiring and interesting people featured in the two seasons of this show that have been released so far.
This may be some of the best car content on Netflix, but, like other streaming companies, Netflix has several other watchable shows and movies to choose from. They have fictional movies like Wheelman, Burn Out, and El Camino. There are classic Knight Rider episodes and new animated Fast & Furious Spy Racers episodes to watch. Schumacher is another interesting documentary about German F1 driver Michael Schumacher. So, save time on your searching, add some of the shows above to your watchlist, and get your automotive fix!
