With the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, there is power in spades, space galore, 8,400 pounds of towing capacity, loads of active safety tech, and more.

What’s New for the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe?

On sale for three decades now, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe was all-new last year, which you can read about here. However, there are plenty of updates this year like the 12” digital gauge cluster becoming standard on every trim except the LS. Google Built-In, which allows for voice-control of Google Assistant, Maps, and Play Store, is also included on LT models and above. The big 6.2L V8 can now be had on RST, Z71, and Premier Tahoe models with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential (eLSD) featured on the off-road ready Z71. A host of new camera views are added this year along with newly standard advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Powertrain

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe 3.0L I6 Duramax - media.chevrolet.com

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe’s standard “small” power plant is a 5.3L V8 making 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque that, like all 2022 Tahoes, routes power to the rear wheels via 10-speed automatic with the option for 4WD. An optional 6.2L V8 cranks power up to 420 horses and 460 lb-ft of torque. There is also a turbodiesel option in the form of a Duramax 3.0L inline-6 that matches the 6.2L in torque, but makes 277 hp. If you’re cross shopping the Ford Expedition, a comparison you can read here, note that you won’t find a diesel mill from the Blue Oval. A fully independent suspension ensures confident handling that can be improved upon with the available Magnetic Ride Control and Adaptive Air Ride Suspension system.

Towing & Payload

Every 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe comes prepped for towing with auxiliary engine and transmission coolers, a hitch view camera mode, trailer sway control, 2” receiver, and 7-pin wiring harness. To hit the max hauling figure of 8,400 pounds however, you’ll want the Max Trailering package. For $250, it adds an integrated trailer brake controller and enhanced cooling radiator. There are a host of available systems to make towing easier like a camera view that displays what’s behind the trailer and a trailer blind spot monitor.

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Fuel Economy & MPG

Cylinder deactivation is utilized on both V8 motors found in the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, as is idle start-stop tech. Both fuel technologies help the 5.3L variant achieve 15 mpg in city driving and 20 mpg on the highway, in RWD configuration. 4WD figures have yet to be released. The bigger 6.2L V8, in RWD setup, only drops by 1 mpg on the city rating and matches the 5.3L on the highway rating. In 4WD, 6.2L equipped Tahoes drop one more mile per gallon on highway efficiency. The Duramax diesel is the most fuel efficient with RWD ratings of 21/28 mpg in city/highway driving and 20/26 mpg, respectively, when fitted with 4×4.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space

The sheer volume of the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe cabin makes it a great option for families, so much so that we named it as one of the best SUVs for families. Even third row occupants will have 35” of legroom and the second-row slides fore and aft to optimize space based on who’s along for the ride. Triple-zone HVAC does its best to keep everyone comfortable while a heated steering wheel and auto-dimming rearview mirror available on higher trim levels keeps the driver in good space. There is also the option for power-folding rear seats, making it that much easier to open up the cavernous 123 cubic feet of max cargo capacity.

Entertainment & Technology

Google Built-In, found on LT trim and above, means you can now bark commands at Google and your Tahoe will respond accordingly. A 12” digital instrument panel and 10” infotainment touchscreen show off the tech-forward creds of this big SUV and can be complimented by a $2000 rear-seat entertainment system with dual 12.6” touchscreen displays. The full list of tech features is too long to list here, but highlights include a color HUD, rearview camera mirror, HD surround vision, and 10-speaker Bose stereo system.

Safety Features

All new 2022 Chevrolet Tahoes come with Chevy Safety Assist featuring Forward Collision Assist with Automated Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist. Buckle to Drive, also standard equipment, prevents shifting out of Park until occupied front seats are belted. Lane Change Alert and the Safety Alert Seat can be found in certain packages while rain-sensing windshield wipers and parking assist sonar front and rear are lineup standard.
